What To Expect

Meet your guide in central Oxford and explore the medieval streets, uncovering the city’s and university’s history. If you’re interested in J.R.R. Tolkien or Harry Potter, inform your guide and they will aim to accommodate yours and your group’s interests.

Visit some of the city’s oldest university colleges, and head inside the 17th-century Bodleian Library. Then, depending on availability on the day, visit the Divinity School to view its spectacular rib-vaulted ceiling, and take in Christ Church before hopping on a bike and exploring on two wheels.

Cycle into Radcliffe Square to see the Radcliffe Camera and some unusual gargoyles, and view the ‘Narnia Door,’ said to have inspired C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Pedal to Magdalen College, where Lewis and Oscar Wilde studied, and after admiring views of the Botanic Gardens, pass the Examinations Schools as you learn about the university’s entrance exams.

Cycle to the Eagle and Child Pub, a former haunt of Tolkien, and coast around Jericho and Port Meadow, an area of common land dubbed ‘Oxford’s oldest monument.’

Your tour finishes in central Oxford, when you can choose to continue exploring at your own pace.

Sites, history, and fun on the bikes
Darryl_M, Apr 2022
This was an excellent trip. Free was knowledgeable, funny, and conversational. He answered all the questions and seemed to genuinely enjoy giving the tour. Seeing the sites was amazing and there were so many beautiful things along the way.

I can't praise the guide Spencer enough. It was a pity Oxford decided to turn on the bad weather for the cycling and walking tour. But I must stress that the bike I was given didn't have gears nor a bell that worked. Nor was I given an helmet. Considering the traffic and tourists in the city centre, plus the rain I thought this foolhardy of the tour operators. The bike was terrible. Despite this Spencer was an interesting and informative guide and I thought the tour was worthwhile.

Very nice tour!!! Our tour guide was Tim, which was very nice, friendly, helpful and funny. He told us about History and also come cusiosities about Oxford. As he was borned and raised there, he knew a lot. It was a pitty that it was rainy. Good thing that we scheduled on Monday morning and only our group was there! So we had all his attention and had lots of fun! I recommend!

We enjoyed the sights and history very much. Our guide was very knowledgeable and laid back. He was great to answer all of our questions along the way. My daughter had a new bike and I had an old cranky one, which was fine until the hill LOL. I recommend the guides give a summary of how he tour will go, including if there is a stop along the way to use the toilets and or get water. That way we could know what to expect. We would definitely do this again.

Even though it was raining, Tim our guide, made the tour interesting and satisfying. He was knowledgeable and amusing, giving lovely historical insights and anecdotes. Tim was able to get us into Magdalen College, his own college, for a tour of its beautiful buildings and grounds. We abandoned the cycling part of the tour because we were not dressed for the wet weather but I was still very satisfied with the tour. Highly recommended!
