Guide Pastor was terrific

I’m rating the great guide we had and not necessarily the city tours. Pastor was informative and pleasant, prompt, flexible, and great overall. My fault for not researching Joburg and Soweto to understand this was a slum tour. I very much appreciated hearing the history of the city and country but did not enjoy the trash, poverty, destruction, and crime of Joburg. I did decline to walk the poor area of Soweto and did not feel safe in the Maboneng street art (graffiti) part of town. I didn’t know that slum tourism is very popular, just not for me.

I booked this tour as I only had one day in Joburg. The tour was very though and informative. It included a lot, and I learned a lot about the city. I even did the bungie off the Soweto Towers (booked on arrival) and the guide was more than happy to wait. I was also dropped off at the Apartheid museum to continue my day of tourism. Very happy with the experience.

Being from the US we have long admired Nelson Mandela from afar. We were both old enough to remember the apartheid years and South Africa’s long struggle to overcome this cruel system. Seeing Constitution Hill and Soweto was so meaningful . Our tour guide Pastor was excellent.

Our guide Pastor showed us all the main city sights and shared a volume of information about the history, culture, and political changes of the area. He was very friendly and informative. Pastor - picked my son and myself up and gave us a tour of important historical sights of Jo-Berg. He was knowledgeable, funny and interesting. My 16 year old son had no desire to go on this tour or to get up at 830 for it. But by the end of the tour - he was making me pay for a bigger tip. So if it kept a 16 year old off his phone and engaged - you will enjoy it too.

The walking tour portion inside of Soweto, conducted by a separate guide, was a really special experience. Our primary guide, however, was a disappointment. Not engaged, hard to hear, although she was knowledgable. Came away feeling a bit scammed. She stopped at an art sore, where they hit us up to buy things (which I'm sure our guide would have received a commission for), had to give separate tip to the Soweto guide, which was a surprise. Just didn't leave us with a good feeling.

About the crafts and commissions,we do not ask our guest to buy anything in order for us to get Commission,no client has ever been forced to buy anything they don't want before and it will never be done,guest do that out of their own will,the guided tour in the lower class it's an 'optional'tour that's why we always inform our clients before we hand them over to our local guides .
