Bad overall experience

Prior to booking, I chatted with someone to confirm the tour was guided and person responded very harshly saying that’s what the description said. The guided tour was a determining factor tu p my decision in booking it. The driver showed up 25 minutes late and said upon being asked about the guide, that someone would meet us once we got there. Turns out, no one was there or ever met us at any point finding our time there. The driver did his best to help us. No beverages or refreshments were EVER included or offered either, as detailed (false advertisement).
Misleading-This is a Taxi service

This is a TAXI service. Not an actual tour. You are paying to be driven to the chavon. You are left alone to explore. No history lessons, You do not get to see the design school. My experience: I was picked up from my hotel a few minutes late. He drove pretty fast. Sometimes, I felt scared on how he maneuvered the road. He pointed out some things about the route, but his company kept calling him. I gave up trying to have a conversation. At altos the chavon. He told me to take a picture of the map and then told me I have an hour to explore the area and take pictures. I saw other groups that got history lessons. I was solo, so I did the best I could alone exploring and taking pictures by myself. He declined letting me see the design school which was my main interest. That was a bummer. I got offered a bottle water. We returned to the hotel. For me, more time was spent on the road than the actual location. Personally, it would be better to hire a taxi service and explore on your own. At least you get to see the design school.

Nightmare to Altos de Chavon

While we loved this little village, our experience with Viator and Go ParadiseRD (tour operator) was less than stellar. Our trip was delayed two hours due to mechanical issues. We attempted- and so did our resort- but the phone number wasn’t working. Finally received an email after getting through to Viator customer service. We reserved an English guide, who we picked up along the highway. He hardly spoke to us the entire one hour ride. When we got to Altos de Chavon, he paid our entrance fee and walked us to the plaza and told us to be back at the van in an hour!! When we were done, no asking if we enjoyed ourselves or anything. Once back at the hotel, he couldn’t be bothered to get out and say good. By the way, he said he couldn’t reach us in the morning because of an incorrect number. They had our name and knew what resort we were staying at…a little extra effort on their part would have been the right thing to do.

I had a great time and was able to see an art gallery, and museum, theatre and gardens. I could have used maybe a little more time but otherwise it was a great experience. The tour guide was on the phone most of the time but he was nice and checked in on me periodically but this is very much a self-guided tour.
