I thought I made a huge mistake in the first little bit of the hike, but the rest of the hike was not bad. Ernesto was a great tour guide, and he did a really good job leading the hike and made everything feel special with the pacing of the hike. The locations we went to were all great. Highly recommend this tour!

The great dune, Las Tres...

The great dune, Las Tres Marias, and the salt ridges were all amazing sights that I highly recommend seeing, and this tour definitely got us around to all of them. The sunset at Coyote Rock was a bit underwhelming -- in an arid desert with no clouds, there's really not much to look at during a sunset if you don't want to stare directly into the sun! The guide was also very unclear at the visitor center about where to go -- he parked the van and then ran off without telling us where to meet him and in how long.

Good afternoon trip to see the moon valley highlights

What a unique part of the world. A must do. Communication was fantastic and everything explained in advance as far as meeting point (centre of town) and entrance ticket costs. Our guide spoke in both English and Spanish. We did an easy uphill walk/hike to a beautiful look out, saw salt flats and a beautiful sunset from a view point to finish. Nice and early back about 6pm.

Mixed Review - Very interesting place, but tour was sub-par and not as advertised

Valle de la Luna offers stunning landscapes and is very much worth a visit. However, this tour did not include all that was advertised. First, the entire tour lasted between 3 and 3 1/2 hours, including travel time, not the 4-5 that was advertised. Moreover, we made just one stop in Valle de la Luna, not the 3 advertised. It was a great stop, as we hiked to some impressive vista points, but we were in the park maybe 90 minutes total, instead of the 3 hours advertised. Our guide was friendly and enthusiastic, but not particularly informative. The sunset finale at a viewpoint outside the park was well-executed and a highlight. Frankly, if you have a car, you are probably better off just seeing the park on your own. Valle de la Luna is very close to San Pedro. You have to buy a separate entry pass anyway, which you must get online at least a day in advance, tour or not. Also, hotel pickup/dropoff is advertised, but this did not occur either, although since San Pedro is such a small village, this was not a terribly inconvenient. 17 people seemed a bit much for a "small group tour" as well, although we did all fit comfortably in the van.

This was a great tour! Mostly driving and stopping at view points with some short “hikes” in between. Super well-organized and hit all the highlights in the area, ending with a beautiful sunset over the valley. Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and spoke both English and Spanish as we had speakers of both languages in our group. Highly recommend!

This is a must tour if you are in San Pedro de Atacama area. The very unique landscapes were amazing and our tour guide Javier was the best! The sunset experience was splendid!

Overpriced for what you get.

Some additional information for other travellers about this tour. The plus points: on time, 12 in the group and good knowledgeable guide and the Valle de La Luna was impressive. The concerns: At over £50 per person you don’t get much for your money … in my opinion! Guide is also the driver and covers both Spanish and English. No hotel pickup, attraction is only 7 minutes away from the collection point, entrance fee is on top of the tour price which you get a message from the tour operator to say it must be purchased beforehand, another £11-12 purchased online or they can purchase for you for an extra fee (approx £5 on top) spent 2 hours registering and the website wouldn’t take a UK address. Then contacted the tour operator and they apologised saying we can collect and pay on the day (without fee and if over 60 it is half price). Never saw or was given the entrance ticket! I appreciate Chile is slightly more expensive than other Latin American states but what did I get for my money… not a lot for a minivan, guide/driver and bit of diesel. Again, in my opinion!

Regarding your concerns about this tour, please note our tour description indicates this is a tour with Bilingual driver-guide assistance. This condition has never had a claim on our passengers as the quality of the service has been always well appreciated. Regarding the entrance fee, we are really sorry to know the official webpage of the Moon Valey Site did not accept your address. As you mentioned, you had the option of purchasing the tickets with a little admin fee in advance, or directly on spot that day. The entrance fee is mandatory. This place is managed by aboriginal communities and they collect it. There is no need to bring a paper ticket, this is the reason why you did not receive one. As you mentioned, the service was well provided and our guide did a good job; which is more than a van, a guide, and a bit of diesel; so we really appreciate your comments. This tour was the highlight of our trip to Atacama. The hikes, views, and sunset were all incredible. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and passionate and took time to answer any questions we had. I would not hesitate to book another tour with Whipala Expedition.

We had such a great time doing the Valle de la Luna trip! Whipala tours did a great job of communicating with us leading up to the tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and kept us on schedule to reach the final overlook by sunset. We had previously considered doing the valle de la luna (moon valley/ valle de la muerte) by bike- but after talking to a few friends who unfortunately didn’t make it to all the sites due to the elevation, I’m glad we chose this tour instead (we did this tour our first day so hadn’t acclimated yet). Would absolutely recommend!
