Amazing experiences in the rainforest during a torrential downpour. Homemade food, DIY chocolate and coffee. What more could you ask for? Well, let's not forget the biologist!!! Holy smokes we were impressed! We learned so much. Our tour guides were true experts and taught us so much about the eco systems here in the Santa Marta area. They spoke almost perfect English as well. I do suggest that you tip the guides right after they finish with you because they take off and you won't see them again and they do such an amazing job. I will say that it is maybe a little more than a moderate walk, bring bug spray, wear tennis shoes. It was a pretty rigorous walk and I have 2 bad knees so it was hard. But I am so so glad I did it. I highly, highly recommend. A couple things: pick up location, we had to call a couple times and they were late. We think this had to do with Viator as a website. Also, you will be picked up in a taxi.

    Prepare to walk a lot!
    Marina_P, Apr 2024
We had just done Tyrona the day before so we were still sore from the trails. We weren't expecting this much walking. This activity is not suitable for people who have disabilities or challenges walking. The trails were up or downhill for the most part. The hotel pick-up was really appreciated. The tour began in their main shop in Minca, and from there we walked to a coffee farm. We were brought to a small demo area and shown the coffee process, machinery, fermentation and drying station. I only spotted 1 coffee tree. Would have been nice to see more to really experience the farm. We were then given a small amount of coffee to sample (the size of an espresso) - and that was it for coffee sampling. Then we were marketed some products from that farm. The information provided was sufficient and not too overwhelming, but we spent most of the time getting to/from that coffee farm and very little time at the farm enjoying the atmosphere and coffee. I was hoping we'd get to taste coffee at different stages of roasting or at least different types of coffee. We then walked to the waterfall where we had a short 20-minute or so break. I was told I could get changed there, but there was nowhere to change as it was in the middle of the forest. I got changed behind a towel. So get prepared to either wear your bathing suit or change at the coffee farm. The waterfall break was very much appreciated. I would have liked spending more time there. We then walked to our lunch spot, which took about an hour. We had lunch there (beautiful presentation, quite mediocre in taste) and were given some time to relax before the chocolate presentation. The setting is picturesque: an open wooden tree house overlooking mountains and the jungle. I could have easily spent several hours there, laying on their hammocks. After the break, we were invited back to the lunch area where we listened to two presentations on biodiversity and the chocolate-making process. Both were very interesting. We got to taste the chocolate fruit as well as the beans at different stages of the process. We then participated in a brief chocolate-making activity where we ground chocolate and added some sugar and sesame seeds to it. It was a very small amount which we had to eat on the spot. I thought we would make enough to take back home. Then, once again, we were offered products for sale. Overall, the value for what was offered made sense: the pick-up and drop-off, lunch, presentations and various little samples. Total walking time was about 2.5 hours: 30 minutes to coffee farm, 30 minutes to waterfall, 1 hour to lunch, 20 minutes back.
    Enjoyable Day!

Nice days adventure! Easy to moderate hiking. Informative about the local flora and fauna. The cacao session was entertaining! Water level at the falls was very low when we were there due to no rain for several months but it was still refreshing. Use bug spray! I forgot and I am itchy the day after!
    Wonderful time

Absolutely loved the trip, it was very interesting and informative. The only minus I could find is that the taxi driver that took us to Minca was almost 30 mins late and he spoke zero English, which is not good for a trip that is booked in English

Tony was an awesome guide. Explained everything in English and Spanish. A minor issue connecting with driver to get to Minca but it all worked out.
Long day with lots of variety
    Carol_G, Feb 2024
The day might be long for some people but there is a lot of variety and you do not feel rushed. Bring bug spray for the hike! People were nice and shared some with me. There is a lot of walking/hiking wear comfortable shoes and swim clothes if you enjoy the water! As others have mentioned my only complaint is the taxi- he got lost in the morning and on the way home he actually stopped for gas during rush hour. The tour is a 5 star transportation 3 since we did actually get there and back
Unmissable for anyone thinking to book

A brilliant day out and something highly recommended for anyone looking to do the same. Everything in the tour was very well thought out. Our guide, Tony, spoke very good English, was extremely knowledgeable in all things Biodiverse and made sure that the entire group was as comfortable as could be. Started with a short 45 min hike, with a stop at a coffee farm where we learnt about the process of picking and processing beans, before tasting freshly roasted coffee. A Waterfall bathing stop inbetween that and lunch was exactly what was needed in the hot Minca sun. Lunch was amazing, catered perfectly to our vegetarian diet and the atmosphere of the Jungle Joe Lodge was very chill. We had a talk on biodiversity in Colombia, followed by a live demonstration on how to make chocolate, before making our own. The only downside to the day was the pickup. Whilst only a minor inconvenience, the pickup is done via local taxis, which have a tendency to turn up late. Communication is good, but all in Spanish (very thankful for Google Translate). Apart from this minor thing, the day was near enough perfect. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to do a hike or visit a working coffee farm.

Fun trip with different aspects of the life in minca en Colombia! The tour guide was very nice and the coffee with whiskey was very tasty.
A good time had by all

As an out of shape, 60+ traveler I was happy to survive the hike but my 5 and 8 year old grandchildren did phenomenal on the trails. There was a lot of information given by our guide, a University Professor with many degrees, and a snake (dead) and tarantula (alive) were seen along with toucans, parrots and butterflies. I was hoping to get a glimpse of a monkey, sloth or anteater but they seem to be rather elusive (story of my travels). The waterfall, tasting the fruit from the coffee plant and making a chocolate ball were all fun experiences. The lunch was delicious. Our guide and fellow travelers made this tour extra special. Take water, wear good trail shoes and prepare for a bumpy ride to and from Minka.
    Nice day to Minca

We really enjoyed the tour to Minca. Gustavo the guide was very nice, his english was really good. Just be aware that you are going to walk a lot under the humidity of the forest, but the hike is not difficult, there's only a challenging part to access the waterfall but it was ok. It was pouring rain when we went to visit the coffee farm so the walk was quite muddy and slippery. But overall it was a nice walk and the view of the forest is really beautiful. We had lunch in a camp and spent the rest of the tour there, I really recommend visiting this place, it was well organized!
    Great day out!

Tony the guide was excellent and very informative on the whole trip ..the coffee part and waterfalls were great wouldn’t recommend for kids under 8 as it’s a lot of walking and hiking on some tough roads ..overall had a great time
    Just go!

Genial experiencia en la naturaleza de Minca
    AnaPaula_M, May 2024
Feine schokolade, gutes Essen, Tukan gesehen, interessant
    Lita_S, Mar 2024

    Me encantó
    Oswaldo_G, May 2023
