Though now popular for its animated nightlife, Savannah (along with the rest of the United States), was completely dry during Prohibition in the early 20th century. Learn the history behind the 18th Amendment—and how it led to the rise of smuggling and moonshine—on a tour of the country’s only museum dedicated to the history of Prohibition. Costumed docents keep visitors entertained and informed while exploring this lively collection. And of course, a speakeasy is attached to the museum for you to enjoy after your tour (own expense).
  • Entrance to the American Prohibition Museum, the only one of its kind in the world
  • Browse more than 200 historical artifacts, like dry propaganda and equipment for brewing moonshine
  • Costumed docents inform and entertain from start to finish
  • Photos, murals, videos, and immersive high-tech experience bring the rise and fall of Prohibition to life

Great
Patricia_D, May 2024
Was very informative yet entertaining opened our minds to how devastating that era in history was we were never aware that the women’s suffrage movement was so involved in prohibition
Interesting
Bethany_C, Apr 2024
Very cool artifacts. Would recommend the guided tour, not self guided. You will get much more out of the tour with a experienced guide to tell you all the stories.
Response from Host, Apr 2024

Interesting history
Sherri_C, Mar 2024
Victoria was an excellent tour guide. I highly recommend the full guided tour with drinks in the speakeasy at the conclusion of the tour. Exhibits were well done and we learned quite a bit that we didn't know about the Prohibition years.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
We are so happy you had a great time with our CAST. We hope you'll visit us again when you visit one of our destinations.
Amazing look into the past
Carolyn_S, Feb 2024
This is an amazing history of prohibition and also entertaining. The figures are so perfect you think they are human and expect them to move. Learned so much about the times and effects of this law. Thank you
Response from Host, Feb 2024
We're glad you had a great time! Thank you for the review!
Great for teens and adults
Jill_R, Jan 2024
This was a very well done museum. Although it was little, there was a ton of information and it was displayed and told in fun ways. Totally worth it. There are discount tickets on Groupon and if you buy a trolley tour, there are discount tickets through the trolley tour company. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to go through if you are reading most of the information.
Fun
THERESA_C, Dec 2023
The museum was fun and informational I would recommend to others but the speak easy was closed on the day we went so don’t go on a Sunday
A cross between Madam Tussaud's and a history book.
Dawn_W, Nov 2023
The history of prohibition is brought to life using life-like period-dressed figures to tell the story. An opportunity to have a craft cocktail at the end of the tour is icing on the cake.

Demetrius_M, Oct 2023
It was great to see how the Prohibition law impacted the U.S. from its approval in 1920 until its repeal 13 years later.
The museum is visually appealing and fun but full of information
Heather_R, Oct 2023
The museum is visually appealing and fun but full of information. There is a lot of content around the laws and the ways around them - as well as the downstream impacts of prohibition. I wish we had more to time to read all the material. This is a really well done museum. The speakeasy was absolutely wonderful and full of surprises.
"I didn't know that..."
Nick_M, Jul 2023
A deep and very informative look that led up to the 18th Ammendment. Seeing the conditions families had to deal with was startling.
Birthday bash great time
Sabrina_O, Jun 2023
As a wheelchair user myself I was so happy to find I could go through the entire museum easily. The drinks in the speakeasy was delicious and my wife’s birthday trip was made with this experience

Tons of fun facts through out the museum. Really fun and tons of stuff to see! Appreciated the section on moonshine and the influence it had on early NASCAR.
Tax the masses
Tom_H, Mar 2023
Realization that prohibition had o taxes. Sort of believe that it led to a lot of gang warfare for Fatima trying to get control.
Overall worth the time
robert_s, Mar 2023
Very good museum and very informative. The guide in the room with Carrie Nation was excellent- the others appeared to care less whether visitors were there or not

It Was a very educational and informative museum. We enjoyed it. I will recommend this museum. I would like to return with my kids so they can understand the history
Great learning experience. Awesome staff.
pefrat, Nov 2022
Great experience. The Museam has a great flow and includes a very good mix of photos, artifacts, texts, videos and re-enactments, all of which make for an engaging experience. We also very much enjoyed interacting with the staff who were all very knowledgeable and helpful.

milton_v, Nov 2022
Very interesting to learn about the history of prohibition And its impact on our country. The museum was very well organized and easy to understand
A fun ‘add-on’ activity if you have time to kill
Juan_V, Nov 2022
It wasn’t bad and it wasn’t great. I will say this, if you have a couple of hours to kill and if you are looking for a ‘Filler’ thing to do. This is the place. But I would not make it that ‘ONE’ big tour you wanna do for the day. Love all the staff dressed in period costume. The ‘speak easy’ makes good drinks
Fun experience in Savannah
Robert_M, Nov 2022
This was a fun thing to do and added an extra dimension our experience in Savannah. Good information on Prohibition and we’ll presented. The only reason we didn’t give it 5 stars is that we were under the impression that live actors would engage us as we walked through. Instead there were a few people dressed in costume that answered questions only if asked.
American Prohibition Museum.
Nancy_R, Oct 2022
I learned a lot about one of the stages of prohibition in the Savannah area. The displays are fun to look at. The code to the Speak Easy at the end of your tour is a fun experience if you've never been in a Speak Easy before
