What To Expect

Venture through the rugged heart of Australia to the spectacular scenery of Kings Canyon. Get an early start to the day with morning pickup at Ayers Rock Resort, and travel in a comfortable coach through the rocky desert landscape. Start with breakfast at Kings Creek cattle and camel station — an expansive family-run estate that’s been operating since 1981. Get a sense of Outback station life with an optional camel ride (own expense) if you like.

Continue on to Watarrka National Park, home to Kings Canyon. Learn about the history of the massive red sandstone gorge from your guide, including its sacred meaning to the indigenous Ulpinyali and Lilla people.

Immerse yourself in the natural wonder with the choice of two walks. On the 3.5-mile (6-km) Rim Walk, make a strenuous elevation gain of 330 feet (100 meters) up a cliff to the canyon’s edge for thrilling views to the valley floor below. You’ll also follow a steep trail down into the canyon to a leafy, spring-fed oasis nicknamed the Garden of Eden. Or, opt for the more leisurely Creek Bed Walk that runs 1 mile (2 km) along the valley floor and offers a ground-level perspective of the towering canyon walls.

After your walk, recharge with lunch (own expense) and a swim at the nearby Kings Canyon Resort, and then relax and rest your muscles on the scenic return drive to Ayers Rock Resort.

Kings Canyon was a wonderful sight to see but I feel the day was made perfect due to our guide (Pauline) and driver (Colin). Pauline's talks were informative and her knowledge of plants, geology and history was amazing, keeping all in the bus entertained. Colin was also a good guide taking a group of us around the base of the canyon. Congratulations is well deserved.

Challenging hike but worth it
Shaun_B, Apr 2024
It was a long day but Dan and Chloe did an excellent job at informing us and entertaining us throughout the trip. The coach was clean and the ride was smooth. The hike itself reasonably challenging but definitely doable for us and our nearly 12 and 15 year old. We had a bonus stop to see Mt Connor and a salt flat. Definitely worth it.
Great trip to Kings Canyon
Christopher_S, Mar 2024
I took the trip and it was fantastic. The very early start time was not a problem as the very comfortable bus allowed good snooze. Just before sunrise we saw wild horses and camels roaming around. The hike through the canyon was fantastic ... views breathtaking. Garden of Eden ... a true miracle in the desert.
An absolute must do!
Sebastien_V, Feb 2024
Michelle (guide) and Franck (driver) were absolutely fantastic to make this big day unforgettable. Full of live memories and invaluable insights/learning (on landscapes, recent and geological history, First people local culture)! The rim walk is physically demanding so listen to very clear guide advices. Absolutely not to be missed though (if your health/age condition permits).
Rim hike is awesome once you get up the 500+ rock steps
Rich_C, Jan 2024
The rim hike was awesome! We did it on a really hot summer day (105 F/41 C), but early start made it bearable. If you can make it up the first 500 steps, the rest is very enjoyable. Mitch was a great guide
A your that gives incredible views and loads of history
Merry_H, Oct 2023
A brilliant trip. It’s a long bus ride: 3.5 hours one way, and the same back again. But we had Michelle as our tour guide, and she filled those 7 hours with many interesting stories about the history of our surroundings. She is the most brilliant storyteller! The rim walk is great- and a really enjoyable experience. The views are incredible!
King's Canyon, a must do if you go to Uluru
Lee_S, Oct 2023
Our fantastic guide, Michelle from AAT Kings told us so much about the geological and indigenous history of Kings Canyon, whilst guiding us up the 500 steps and then up and down rocks for 43 hours. Frank, our wonderful AAT Kings driver took part of the group on a less arduous but just as interesting walk along the bottom of the canyon. This ws a magical day, worth the pre-dawn start.
Great hiking experience in the outback
Sean_C, Oct 2023
Michelle and Frank were great that day. It’s a 3 hr coach ride to get there. Breakfast provided. 2 different hike options provided. The 6km hike or the shorter shaded 2km option. Remember to bring at least 3 L of water a person. It’s a really hot and dry hike.
Memorable experience.
Judith_H, Oct 2023
This trip was everything and more. Yes it was an early start and a long day but managed to get some shut eye before stopping for great Aussie breakfast. Kings Canyon was absolutely fantastic. The Tim walk is well worth the effort. Our wonderful Guide Glenn & driver Beatrice made the tour so enjoyable and memorable. This is a must do tour.
Reduce the group size for all five stars
Lewis_B, Oct 2023
This was a great day trip and Michelle was a really knowledgable and informative guide both on the walk and on the bus. With a 9am deadline to start the walk by, it did feel a little rushed on the way there but we made it. The group size was far too big as it was unrealistic to keep everyone together on the walk. It felt like Michelle couldn’t give her full knowledge because she was busy chasing group members. The walk and views were awesome though and would definitely recommend.
Amazing views
Caroline_B, Sep 2023
Challenging climb up but well worth it for the spectacular views. Interesting geology and wonderful walk into the Garden of Eden. It was great to have the option for an easier walk as well as my husband was not up to the Rim Walk.

The tour guides were very well informed. Their knowledge of the area and stories were very interesting.
A close encounter with nature
jgrose, Aug 2023
The river walk was very enjoyable and our guide provided a lot of information about the things we were seeing. The trees, rock faces and plants were stunning. The walk was accompanied by the beautiful songs of birds just doing their own thing.
Fantastic strongly recommend
Dean_M, Aug 2023
This is well organised trip. Wills our tour leader was great with all the information on anything we needed to know. The driver was funny and also had some insightful information as well
Not to be missed.
Orlando_A, Aug 2023
Jim and Col made this an amazing experience. Jim is knowledgeable, respectful of the culture, geology, surroundings and full of stories. The rim walk was just incredible and only wish I had more time to enjoy it.
Fun
ChunMei_Z, Aug 2023
Very knowledgeable & Fun! Challenge hike & beautiful scenery. Make sure bring more than 2 liters water
Highly recommended!! Great tour!!
Tamar_H, Aug 2023
We were picked up at 4:30am. The bus was very comfortable, had charging dock for every sit and a toilet at the back. Breakfast at Kings Creek Station was great and included in the tour price. The beginning of the rim walk was quite hard - climbing 500 stairs but it was worth it. The scenery during the walk was spectacular. Our tour guide Michelle and the bus driver Frank were very informative and friendly
Amazing tour guide Glenn
Athena_K, Aug 2023
The tour guide Glen was fantastic. He made everyone feel relevant, brought our group together by referring to them as “family” made my 12 year old shy daughter feel more confident by giving her leadership roles. He knew a lot and made the tour an experience to remember for a life time.
A must do !
Michelle_S, Aug 2023
Was a most amazing experience! Glenn our tour guid was exceptional! He had so much passion and and energy! Definitely recommend!
Kings Canyon Day Trip
Donna_P, Aug 2023
Even though it was an early start, this trip was very enjoyable. Our tour guide, Glennon was very knowledgeable, helpful and made the tour fun from the start. He was concerned with safety issues of all the tour participants and got us all back safely. We all really enjoyed this tour and would definitely recommend it.
Don't miss Kings canyon experience.
James_C, Aug 2023
Just an amazing experience largely due to a fantastic guide in addition to the amazing scenery. A reasonable level of walking fitness is required but it is well worth the effort.
