What To Expect

The River of Golden Dreams (officially Alta Creek) in Whistler features the epic scenery of British Columbia, best seen by boat. This 3-hour guided canoe tour during summertime provides views around every bend.

Make your way to the Carleton Lodge in Whistler, and check in 15 to 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time. A 10-minute shuttle-bus ride later, arrive at Alta Lake.

Begin with a safety briefing and learn various paddling strokes. Then, hop into your canoe and set off into the water. Your guide will accompany you in a separate canoe.

Paddle through flowing lilies and around overhanging greenery along the aptly named River of Golden Dreams. Pass by the original site of Myrtle Phillip's summer fishing resort. Families of ducks and geese glide along next to you as you head into the river’s mouth.

Take advantage of the creek’s current, and steer through its narrow passages with just a few strokes. As the river opens up again on the other side, you'll get picked up on the shore of the glacier-fed Green Lake.

Your 3-hour tour ends with transport back to the Carleton Lodge.

Great summer fun!
Matt_B, Aug 2023
Took the whole fam. Everyone, including the kids had a great time. Ally and Andy were great. Would definitely recommend. The conditions made it a great workout, so be ready to canoe, as this isn’t a lazy river float.

Fun canoe trip for the family.
Martina_S, Jun 2023
We did a family canoe trip with seven people of varying abilities. Our guide Ally was INCREDIBLE. She made sure that everyone had fun, gave us a lot of information, and made sure that we were all safe and enjoying ourselves. We will do this again.
Never use Viator, they take your money…..with no service
Sam_K, Jul 2022
Never use Viator for bookings. I paid over $200 for an airport transfer that did not turn up. Do not use this third party provider they are taking customers money and claiming it is all too hard to investigate when a service they offer does not show up.

I am sorry to hear that you did not have a positive experience with Viator. I would strongly suggest contacting Viator directly to discuss the details. Posting a poor review on a small business' profile only impacts that business specifically.
Calming canoeing

The staff on this trip was GREAT and really taught us the proper way to canoe!! Beautiful landscape and memories we will have forever!!
Very beautiful view, but not suitable for canoeing beginners
Lilian_J, Aug 2021
The view is beautiful, we really enjoyed it. But canoeing itself is troublesome, don’t recommend completely beginners to do so, the river is narrow and very easy to stuck and get scratched in bushes. Our guide is a bit too fast, we can barely catch the pace
Fantastic family experience

Well organized. Followed Covid safety protocols. Our guide, Tara, was enthusiastic, knowledgeable & attentive to everyone. The driver (sorry. Forgot his name) maneuvered difficult driving, off loaded canoes…all with a broken hand. He was great too.
Lovely way to spend the afternoon
Veronica_V, Jul 2021
Our guide Tara was excellent, patient and calm. The experience was a fun way to spend a couple of hours - and definitely, no experience was necessary.
Awesome

This was a great experience. The scenery was gorgeous, saw lots of bird life and enjoyed the tranquility of the river. My guide Kyle (K1) was patient and always kept an eye on everyone's safety and progress of their paddling skills. I would thoroughly recommend this tour.
