What To Expect

After hotel pickup in Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo, travel with your guide to the pier. En route, hear engaging background about the local area. At the pier, board a panga boat that zips you to Ixtapa Island in a few minutes. With the boat’s roof cover overhead, enjoy protection from sunburns while on board.

After disembarking, take a short stroll from Cuachalalate beach over a hill to Coral beach, which offers fantastic views. Once you get to the Coral beach, there are tables and lounge chairs where you can put your belongings without worry.

Enjoy your free time—swim in warm waters, read that book that’s been on your nightstand forever, or rent snorkel gear to discover the marine life on the coral reef.

You can choose to have lunch at Coral beach (see below for a sample menu) or move on to Varadero beach.

After time on the island, your guide takes you back to the mainland to a lagoon for wildlife viewing. Watch crocodiles, iguanas, turtles, and birds in a natural habitat. Your tour ends with drop-off back at your hotel.

So enjoyed our trip, especially Luis sharing his knowledge as we loved learning about the wildlife and the history of the area. His experience made our trip easy and fun. We were originally going to the the trip to Ixtapa Island on our own, we are happy we chose to go with Luis de la Maza (it was also great to have an air-conditioned van to take us back to our hotel after a long hot day in the sun)

Not worth the money!

I was sick, my 2 sisters went. We were expecting our tour operator to be Luis...and saw many good reviews. He was not able to attend and had someone else do the tour. It was nothing like they expected. Just sat on the beach most of it.

We were able to swim on the island as there was no rip tide or undertow. We stayed and played in the water for over and an hour, then went back in two more times...just lovely...

This was an unforgettable experience! Our guide, Pablo, was amazing and made the whole trip fantastic! We got to spend time on the beach, do some activities like snorkeling and tubing, and eat some great food. I would highly recommend this tour!

Perfect day

The tour was perfect with sunny weather. The beach was beautiful with blue water and great swimming. One side has calm water and the opposite has strong wave but the view was amazing. We sat in the outdoor restaurant with the water view right in front of us. We paid extra for a snorkel tour guide at the restaurant to take us out in the strong water. The food that came with the tour was good too. Restaurant staff, Lili Cipriani, was very friendly. I had a massage for 500 pesos (about 1 hr) and it was wonderful! Luis the tour organizer was very accommodating and responsive as it was raining hard the night before and I thought we might have to cancel. Tony our tour guide was wonderful and gave us a lot of history and background about the city and the tour. Highly recommended.

Great way to spend your day

This was our second tour on this vacation with Luis’ company. It certainly did not disappoint. Luis himself picked us up at our hotel and drove us to Ixtapa, filling us in on lots of interesting facts along the way. We enjoyed the short boat ride to Ixtapa Beach where we were able to relax and have a tasty (large) lunch that included choice of soft drink or beer. Luis was available throughout (without ever feeling obtrusive) to answer questions or show us fun aspects of this area, such as bringing the abundant underwater marine life rushing to shore with just a toss of tortilla pieces. We were also taken to see crocodiles, turtles, and quite a few iguanas. It was a lovely, relaxing day. Apparently, there are full hour massages available (open air) on the 2nd level of the restaurant for a very affordable $25 pp. We will make a point of booking one or more of Luis’ tours the next time we visit this area. Recommended without hesitation.

Day at the isla ixtapa beach

Luis and his wife are a pleasure to have as tour hosts. The trip to the LA isla ixtapa Beach was pleasant, the food excellent (you can order off the menu in lieu of the included main entree). We spent an enjoyable day at a very nice beach and finished the day visiting the crocodiles and birds, many of which had hatchlings. Highly recommend.

Great Honeymoon Adventure!

My husband and I were on our honeymoon and this was the perfect adventure to explore Zihua and Ixtapa. Luis was absolutely amazing and had so much information about the city. Seeing the crocodiles was so cool! You then hop on a quick boat ride from a beautiful beach and go to the island. Luis personally took us snorkeling and we were able to relax, have some beers, and eat a good lunch. It was intimate with just 2 other couples who were super fun to meet but Luis is what made it all worth it! Definitely recommend and will do it again when we return!

Nice time on Isla Extapa

Actually most memorable was going to this neat little island, all the good food, snorkel deal & nesting a family who we rode in the van & the boat in, ate lunch with, who live a couple of miles from where my husband & I live. They’re leaving Mexico on the same flight we are coincidentally as well. Lourdes - in the familia - was so helpful let alone Francisco our tour guide who both interpreted & explained things so well for me all the things to do on the island. Francisco was personable & a joy. I loved the trip, hope to do it again some year when I’ll be familiar with all that goes on. Recommended!

Decent tour, terrible restaurant

The views from the island were beautiful and having the option to snorkle with a guide was a plus. The only reason for the bad review was the food. The included meal was terrible. They served tilapia fish with rice and potatoes. All of wish tasted mushy and bland. The drinks were watered down and the fruit was haed. If the tour chose a different restaurant then overall I'd say the tour would have been a success.

A good tour in spite of...

Roberto and Ran were very nice and attentive. They did a good job and looked after us well. The lunch provided was just fine but the snorkeling was definitely sub par. Not many varieties of fish and the water was quite murky. This is in comparison to other snorkeling experiences that we have had.

We had a great time with Captain Ran. Very informative. Went out of his way to accommodate us. Food was great. The only disappointment was the snorkeling itself. We did see a lot of fish but the water was really murky.

Our tour guide was great telling us all about the special places we would see on the island and wildlife living there.. Our guide spoke very good English, since our Spanish was very limited. Lunch provided on the tour was fantastic and menu offered additional choices we could purchase. Recommend this tour for future travelers to Ixtapa.
