Home to architectural and agricultural marvels, Elche is a transportative, Moorish-influenced destination. Its highlight attraction is undoubtedly the Palmeral, the expansive groves of date palms whose planting (and advanced irrigation system) goes back to late 10th century. Other popular sights include the Huerto del Cura gardens, the Palacio de Altamira (a Moorish-style fortress that’s home to a museum and performance space), and the Calahorra Tower (which was once part of the city walls, built in the 13th century).
Elche can be explored during various day-trip itineraries from Alicante; given its proximity to the city, it’s also easy to plan an independent visit.
