The basics

Most travelers try their luck at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City’s slots and table games before grabbing drinks and a bite to eat at one of the property’s fine and casual dining options, including the iconic Hard Rock Cafe. Be sure to take a look at the memorabilia and video exhibits, which showcase items such as costumes and musical instruments from legends like Lady Gaga and Prince. You may also be able to catch a live performance at one of the hotel’s venues.

How to get there

Atlantic City is located 127 miles (204 kilometers) southwest from New York City and is accessible via car, bus, and train. By car, head down the Garden State Parkway; the ride takes about two hours. By train, go to Philadelphia’s 30th Street Train Station from New York’s Penn Station via Amtrak, then transfer to NJ Transit, which will take you to the Atlantic City Rail Terminal that’s located just off the boardwalk. If you’re leaving from Philadelphia, located to the west of Atlantic City, take the Walt Whitman Bridge to the Atlantic City Expressway (NJ 42-S); the drive is about 1 hour.

What to see along the Atlantic City Boardwalk

Considered the backbone of the Jersey Shore town, the Atlantic City Boardwalk is lined with hotels, resorts, shops, casinos, arcade games, and more. Stroll down the wooden walkway (or take a ride in a rolling chair) to take in views of the ocean and sample local sweets like salt water taffy and fudge. During the morning hours, the boardwalk is open to bicyclists, and during the summer, visitors can enjoy a free concert series at Kennedy Plaza.
