You can either take the chairlift to the summit of the hill or follow a well-marked path that leads to the top—though the trail is only one mile (1.6 kilometers), there’s an elevation gain of 280 meters (918 feet). Belfry Hill (Cerro Campanario) is featured on several Bariloche sightseeing tours, which typically transport you partway up the hill in a vehicle in order to save time and energy. Half- or full-day excursions tend to also cover the mountain-surrounded Nahuel Huapi Lake; the Alpine-style San Eduardo Chapel; and Clover Lagoon (Laguna El Trebol).
Belfry Hill (Cerro Campanario) is located about 11 miles (18 kilometers) west of Bariloche along Route 237. Bus number 20 transports you from the city center to the start of the hiking trail and the chairlift.
The summit of Belfry Hill (Cerro Campanario) is accessible during the hours of daylight. Particularly after the arrival of a tour bus, the summit can get crowded, so try to arrive as early as possible in order to feel like you have the viewing platforms all to yourself.
Bariloche boasts an abundance of lookout points that reveal scenes of snow-capped mountains, sparkling lakes, and uninhabited islands. Alongside Belfry Hill as some of the best are Tronador Hill (Cerro Tronador), the highest mountain in Bariloche and home of the Black Snowdrift (Ventisquero Negro) glacier, and Cathedral Hill (Cerro Catedral), which is also the site of a popular ski resort.
