The Aboriginal Bininj and Mungguy people have inhabited the present-day Kakadu National Park for around 65,000 years. The Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre is a great place to learn that story. Local history and culture are presented through varied exhibits. Many travelers visit the center independently, as it’s located conveniently within the park. Some day tours of Kakadu’s highlights include a stop at the center.

Don’t take photographs of local Aboriginal people without asking their permission first, as they greatly value privacy.
The on-site gift shop is an excellent place to pick up authentic and artistic souvenirs, such as local artwork, didgeridoos, books, and cards.
The center is near the Cooinda Lodge Kakadu, off the Kakadu Highway, down Cooinda Road. It is about 36 miles (58 kilometers) south of Jabiru, the main town in Kakadu, which takes about 40 minutes to drive. Unless you’re on a guided tour, you’ll need your own vehicle to reach the center.
The center is open daily from mid-morning to mid-afternoon in the wet season (November–April) and until late afternoon in the dry season (April–October). The daily hours may vary. Most people prefer to visit Kakadu National Park in the dry season when the weather is more comfortable and all attractions are accessible.
The Bowali Visitor Centre in Jabiru is another place to put on your Kakadu itinerary. Its displays focus on the plants, animals, and landscapes of the Kakadu National Park, which provides a good contrast to Warradjan. Staff can help visitors plan walks and activities. The center is open daily from early morning until late afternoon, except Christmas and New Year’s Day.
