Follow in the footsteps of Captain Scott and his team on a self-guided tour of Discovery Point. Via interpretive displays, you’ll learn about the history of polar exploration, and get to know the explorers who braved the harsh conditions of the Antarctic. Enter the shipyard and find out how and why the Discovery was built, then climb aboard and explore the ship. To save time at the entrance, buy your tickets online in advance.
Discovery Point is a must-visit for those with an interest in polar exploration.
The museum is wheelchair-accessible, and wheelchairs are available for guests to use free of charge; however, full access to the ship isn’t possible.
There’s an on-site café and gift shop.
About a 10-minute walk from the city center, Discovery Point is located on the Dundee Waterfront, across the road from the railway station. City hop-on hop-off buses also stop at the point.
Discovery Point is open year-round Monday through Sunday, and hours vary depending on the day and season. For fewer crowds, avoid weekends and school holidays.
Next to Discovery Point, and opened with great fanfare in 2018, the V&A Dundee is Scotland’s first design museum and the only branch of the V&A outside of London. Spend some time browsing the museum’s collection of items from Scotland’s rich design history. (Dundee is a UNESCO City of Design.) Admission is free, though some special exhibitions carry a fee.
