The Rand Memorial Nature Centre is one of the most popular outdoor attractions on Grand Bahama. Some guided sightseeing tours of the island include the center, along with other points of interest, like the Port Lucaya Marketplace, St John’s Jubilee Cathedral, and the Bahamian Beach Club. Visitors can experience Grand Bahama’s natural wonders on land and sea by combining a walking tour of the nature center with a glass bottom boat cruise on the Grand Lucayan Waterway to Shark Junction.
The Rand Nature Centre is the most easily accessed national park on Grand Bahama. The center can be reached by foot from anywhere in town.
Visit the nature center between October and May for the best birdwatching opportunities, when the resident population is joined by migrating songbirds. The nature center is closed on weekends and holidays. Orchids are in bloom in spring and summer.
The nature center represents one of the best spots on the island to spot local wildlife. Common bird sightings include red-legged thrushes, LaSagra’s flycatchers, Cuban emerald hummingbirds, and Bahama yellow throats. Also keep an eye out for butterflies, curly-tailed lizards, five-lined skinks, and raccoons.
