Start your visit at the Discovery House, the oldest structure on the property, where you’ll find permanent and temporary exhibitions, and an area just for kids. Then, head over to the Supervisor’s House and the two barns, one of which is home to a couple of horses. Finally, take your time wandering the expansive grounds: the boardwalks extending over Jarvis Creek, the Lowcountry heritage garden, the butterfly enclosure, the bog garden with carnivorous plants, and more.
To make the most of your experience, check out the Coastal Discovery Museum’s numerous tours and special programs on offer. They fill up quickly, so be sure to book ahead.
Admission to the museum is free, but donations are accepted.
There’s a fee for the guided tours and some programs and events.
The Discovery House has a gift shop.
The Coastal Discovery Museum is located on Honey Horn Drive. Take Highway 278 or the Cross Island Parkway, and exit at Gumtree Road. The entrance to Honey Horn is on your right.
Open daily, the museum has shorter hours on Sunday, and hosts a farmers market on Tuesday from 9am to 1pm.
The Coastal Discovery Museum has an extensive range of tours, walks, and classes on a diverse range of topics. Sign up for a history or salt marsh walk, a butterfly or blue crab discovery tour, or another excursion that interests you. Or, take a class on indigo tie-dye, sweetgrass basketmaking, or bird-watching.
