Macquarie Wharf is one of the primary cruise ship terminals in the Port of Hobart and is considered the gateway to the Southern Ocean. The Macquarie Wharf Cruise Ship Terminal is about 15 minutes from downtown Hobart on foot; driving takes about five minutes. Hobart International Airport is about 20 minutes from the city center and is accessible by taxi or the Airporter Shuttle Bus.

Located just a 15-minute walk from the terminal, Salamanca Place is a historic docks area established during the whaling era. With grand sandstone warehouses, it continues to be a fine example of Australian heritage architecture. The docks are home to a number of restaurants, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, and host a popular weekly market on Saturdays.
