Things to know before you go
Ward Cove is around 7 miles north of the larger town of Ketchikan, with shuttle services between the towns.
With just 100 residents, options for shopping and dining are extremely limited.
Bring plenty of bug spray and sunscreen.
How to get there
From Ketchikan, it’s a 20-minute drive along Tongass Ave. Otherwise, the town is typically reached by cruise ship, with the port opening in 2021 as an alternative to the busy and bustling Ketchikan. Cruisers docking in Ward Cove can use it as a jumping-off point for more remote adventures, or just spend their time enjoying the peace of the harbor.

Totem Bight State Historic Park
You’ll find this peaceful park a 5-minute drive away from Ward Cove. Established in 1970, the park is home to 15 totem poles which have been either restored or recreated by Tlingit and Haida artists. One of the highlights of the park is the meticulously reconstructed Clan House. This traditional building reflects the architectural style of Indigenous Alaskans and provides a glimpse into their rich culture and history.
