The basics

LACMA is mainly known for the strength of its collection of Asian art, including a rich collection of items from Korea, Japan, and India; Latin American art, from pre-Columbian works to pieces by modern masters including Frida Kahlo; and Islamic art, of which it holds one of the most significant collections in the world. As well as displaying its permanent collection (temporarily closed as it will be moved to LACMA’s new building in late 2024), the museum hosts rotating temporary exhibitions featuring artworks drawn from the collection. Free docent-led guided tours are offered on most days.
