Pocitos is located along the banks of the Río de la Plata east of Montevideo’s Old City. The best way to reach the neighborhood is to take a taxi; expect about 10 minutes from the center and 15 minutes from Central Station.

Walk down the Rambla to the bizarre brick castle shoehorned between two modern buildings. Uruguayan architect Humberto Pittamiglio built this fortress as an homage to his work as an alchemist, filling the odd-shaped rooms and labyrinthine corridors with mystical, esoteric symbolism. Take a tour to see hidden rooms and a staircase leading nowhere. Live musical performances are held frequently next to the restaurant inside.
