The Basics

Getting to the Afareaitu Waterfalls is a bit of an adventure in its own right. Both are accessed by dirt roads, followed by an uphill trek (20 to 30 minutes) through the jungle, over volcanic rock, and across streams. Although the journey to get to this attraction isn't easy, it is worth it for the experience of discovering a hidden jungle waterfall. There’s sometimes a small fee required to hike to the waterfalls.

Waterfall extravaganza
The whole experience was amazing, we are a group of 5 with varied agility’s. The guides Silvia and Marie were caring and assisted us whenever we needed. The track was steep at times but we took our time and got to the waterfall lagoon and had a swim, it was gorgeous, refreshing and didn’t want to get out. On return to Marie’s gardens we had a lovely feast of home grown fruits and juice. We would highly recommend this experience to anyone. Thank you for some brilliant memories

When to Get There

The best time to visit the falls is in summer (November to April), when frequent rains fuel the falls and fill up the rock pools at the base. The falls are often little more than trickles during the winter dry season (October to April). The trail to the falls is accessible year round.
