With 135 acres (55 hectares) to explore, a visit to Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve is all about getting back to nature. Follow the five walking trails and boardwalks, looking out for plants, birds, fungi, and other wildlife along the way—the reserve is home to some 391 plant species, 141 bird species, and 68 different animal species. Don’t miss out on a visit to the Rainforest Discovery Centre, where you can enjoy views of the Glass House Mountains, walk an elevated boardwalk through the rainforest, and learn more about the reserve’s biodiversity.

Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve is located along the Blackall Range, about a 10-minute drive from Maleny in the Sunshine Coast hinterlands. There’s no public transport to the reserve, so you will need your own vehicle or to visit as part of a tour. Free parking is available onsite.

The reserve, Discovery Centre, and car park are all open daily from 7am through 6pm, except on bank holidays. The trails can get busy on summer (December–February) weekends, so start early to avoid the crowds, snag a parking spot, and avoid walking in the midday heat.
