The basics

Opened in 1791, the First Bank of the United States served as the nation’s first bank until 1811, laying the groundwork for the country’s financial system. Today, the building is a National Historic Landmark; however, you can only admire the bank from the outside, as it is not open to the public. Some guided sightseeing tours of Philadelphia, including Hamilton-themed tours, feature a stop at the bank, where you can learn about its history and haunted past.
