The best way to experience the NCT is to attend a show. During their regular competitive and interactive improv comedy shows, audience members shout out suggestions for games and scenes, and two professional comedy teams take it from there. At the end of the show, audience members decide which team made them laugh more and is therefore the winner of the show. Variety and sketch comedy shows are also held from time to time.

Certain shows are appropriate for all ages, while others are recommended for mature audiences, 17 and older.

The National Comedy Theatre is located in Mesa, about 18 miles (29 kilometers) east of downtown Phoenix. Free parking is available in the strip mall where the theater is located. By public transport, take the Phoenix Metro Light Rail to the Country Club/Main Street station in Mesa.
Improv comedy shows are held twice every Friday and Saturday night, with variety and sketch comedy shows on Thursday nights. The earlier weekend shows are appropriate for all ages, while the later shows are slightly uncensored; the Thursday shows are sometimes fully uncensored. The theater also holds comedy classes and workshops.
Comedy fans have a number of options in the Phoenix area. In addition to the National Comedy Theatre, other options include Rick Bronson’s House of Comedy, the Torch, the Jesterz, ImprovMANIA, Stir Crazy Comedy Club, and Stand Up Live.
