Profitis Ilias

Kameiros, Rhodes, 851 06

The basics

With no public transportation to the peak, Profitis Ilias can only be visited via private Rhodes driving tour or 4X4 Jeep tour through the countryside—many of which also stop in the nearby villages of Campochiaro, Platania, or Eleousa.

To explore on foot, join a hiking tour that takes you through the wild Mediterranean forests, vineyards and farms, and ruins of the ancient city of Kamiros, also known as ""Greece’s Pompeii.” Set almost at the exact center of Rhodes, a drive up to the top of Profitis Ilias can easily be paired with sightseeing on both the northern and southern reaches of the island.

When to get there

The high-altitude peak offers a cool respite from the heat along the island’s coast, but be careful of the scorching midday sun, especially if hiking the trails. Profitis Ilias has views both east and west, so photographers can catch the sunrise and sunset from the mountain slopes.
