The Basics
Condado Lagoon is located between the neighborhoods of Condado and Miramar in the Santurce area of San Juan. Travelers and locals flock to the spacious lagoon and the nearby Jaime Benítez Park, which are ideal spots for relaxing, exercising, or spending time in the water.
There are plenty of activities available at the Condado Lagoon—from small-group or private kayaking or paddle boarding adventures to water bike tours. You can also choose to rent equipment for a few hours if you prefer to explore independently. Guided excursions take place throughout the day, with sunset and night tours also available.
Things to Know Before You Go
Kayaking or paddle boarding tours typically include life jackets and storage lockers.
Most water sport experiences are not wheelchair-accessible.
Two-person kayaks may be available—children must be 3 years and over to ride in them.
Look out for manatees, turtles, colorful fish, and sometimes dolphins in the lagoon.
How to Get There
Condado Lagoon is easy to get to from most San Juan areas—either with your own transportation, in a taxi, or on a guided tour that has transport included. Alternatively, take the Line T3 bus which stops at Calle Waymouth a short walk away from the lagoon.
When to Get There
Laguna del Condado is open year-round. If you want to avoid crowds and take part in watersports, it may be a better idea to come in the morning during the week. The best time of year to visit San Juan is in the spring from April through June. If you visit during the summer and you’re looking to avoid the heat, you could opt for a LED night kayaking experience.
Visiting Bioluminescent Bays in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico has three bioluminescent bays: Laguna Grande, La Parguera, and Mosquito Bay, which has set world records for having the brightest bio lights in the world. Bioluminescence refers to the glow-in-the-dark affect derived from microscopic organisms (dinoflagellates) lighting up whenever there’s movement in water surrounding them. These three bays draw in visitors from around the world to kayak in their waters after dark.
