You could also visit the winery on a Yarra Valley food and wine tour, or a hop-on, hop-off wine-tasting bus tour from Melbourne. Or pair your visit with a scenic hot-air balloon flight over the valley.
Reservations aren't required for Cellar Door wine tastings, but bookings are essential for groups, tours, and dining experiences.

Dominique Portet Winery is along the Maroondah Highway in the Yarra Valley, 35 miles (57 kilometers) northeast of Melbourne and a 1-hour drive. There's no public transport to the winery, so most travelers opt to join a tour or take one of the hop-on, hop-off shuttles.
The winery is open daily (except public holidays), with Cellar Door available from mid-morning until early evening. Tours are only available from Friday through Sunday, the Bistro is open from Thursday through Sunday, and aperitifs are offered from Monday through Wednesday.
