History and Highlights of the Wensleydale Creamery

Cheese has been made in Wensleydale since the 1100s, when French Cistercian monks first introduced it to the area. The Wensleydale Creamery continues the tradition and is the valley’s only Wensleydale cheese maker. Visitors can learn about the craft on a journey through the Visitor Centre’s Cheese Experience, watch master cheese-makers at work, taste up to 20 varieties–such as Wensleydale with cranberries in the tasting room–and purchase their favorite versions at the cheese shop.
