Zadar trip ideas
Whether you’re feeling your way through the Vortex Tunnel, laughing at yourself in the Mirror Room, or solving mind-boggling puzzles, the Museum of Illusions Zadar will challenge your senses and open your mind. Inspired by the Museum of Illusions Zagreb, it makes a fun diversion from city sightseeing.
An admission ticket for the Museum of Illusions Zadar includes unlimited access to the interactive exhibits. Along with the Vortex Tunnel and Mirror Room, highlights include a horizontal room, a “zero-gravity” room, an infinity room, and a number of holograms. Be sure to bring your camera—there are endless opportunities for Instagram-worthy photos, from sitting on a gigantic, Alice in Wonderland–style chair to serving up your own head on a dinner plate. There’s also a playroom filled with puzzles and games.
The Museum of Illusions Zadar is a must for Instagrammers.
The small museum can be visited in under an hour, but you might want to spend longer in order to take photos and fully appreciate the exhibitions.
There is an admission fee for the museum, with reduced rates for kids and families.
Instructions for the interactive exhibits are provided in Croatian, German, English, and Italian.
The museum has a shop filled with quirky gifts, puzzles, and illusion-themed items.
Visit with at least one or two people to make the most of the interactive exhibits.
The museum is located in downtown Zadar, next door to the Museum of Ancient Glass. A short stroll from all the city’s main attractions, the museum is most easily reached on foot. If you drive yourself, there’s a large public parking lot on the seafront, just two minutes’ walk away, or taxis will drop you off right outside.
The museum is open daily all year round, but opening times vary depending on the season. From June to September, the museum stays open until midnight, and an early morning or late-night visit is the best time to avoid the crowds—the small space can quickly fill up.
The Museum of Illusions Zadar isn’t the only unique attraction in Zadar. Stop by the Museum of Ancient Glass to watch glassblowing and bottle-making demonstrations; visit the seafront Sea Organ, which “plays” notes as the waves crash against marble steps; then head to the Greeting to the Sun, a solar-powered art installation by Nikola Bašić that comes to life at sunset.
