3 Days in Antalya for First Timers

Curated by Jenna Scatenawho travels to Antalya multiple times per year.

No matter how many times I visit Antalya, I’m still discovering new things to see and do. This resort city on the Mediterranean coast strikes a balance between the classy beachfront resorts of today and old remnants of the Roman era.

From the cliff top views toward distant mountains to its yacht-filled harbor and interesting museums, the city is blessed both with natural beauty and a multitude of attractions. Every time I visit I am newly surprised by the city, and I’ve put together the ultimate 3-day itinerary for first timers to help them plan a stress-free trip to Antalya.

Hot and humid summers disperse for cold, wet winters in Antalya.

If you only have time for one thing, make it a ride on Antalya's cable car.

Day 1

On day one in Antalya, get familiar with the province on a full-day tour that includes the nearby Duden Waterfalls that feed into the Mediterranean sea. After lunch, explore Antalya's Old Town, seeing attractions like Hadrian’s Gate, the Clock and Bramn Tower, the Yivliminare Mosque, and many of the city’s museums. Later, take a ride on the city’s famed cable car for unrivaled views of the city and beyond.

In the evening, take in the Fire of Anatolia show, which features hundreds of dancers performing a combination of ballet, modern, and traditional Turkish folk dances set to lively music.

Day 2

On day two, head to the Greco-Roman city of Hieropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the nearby travertines at the Cotton Castle of Pamukkale before taking a rejuvenating dip in the mineral hot springs of Cleopatra's pool. Tours often include a hot lunch and additional activities that highlight the local area.

If you prefer something more luxe, consider a full-day chartered boat trip to the Kas Islands. The trip offers opportunities to snorkel and swim near a shipwreck and underwater canyon, as well as beach and tea time at Limanagzi Bay, before returning to harbor.

Day 3

On day three, follow Turkey's (officially the Republic of Türkiye) turquoise coast on the path to Demre, where ancient rock-cut tombs lie—structures that have to be seen to be understood. From there you can take a boat to the historic sunken city of Kekova. Swim and snorkel among the ruins where you can see Lycian and Roman artifacts.

Alternatively, take a full-day trip to Turkey's Green Canyon in the Taurus Mountains. The rugged, rocky landscape is home to emerald lakes, the Olympinar dam, and the Manavgat Waterfall. This area is strikingly picture-perfect, and an extraordinary last stop to visit before leaving Antalya.
