3 Days in Boston for Foodies

Curated by Katie Nadwornywho always says she’s from Boston.

Boston is a bonanza for food lovers. When I was a kid, growing up in the Boston suburbs, my family would always take me to Boston for food adventures. We'd explore the Italian heritage of the North End, the dim sum joints in Chinatown, lobsters and fresh oysters by the Seaport, and more. Even now, when I return to visit, my to-do list is just a recitation of local food I plan to eat.

The city is a mishmash of high-end dining and local joints that have remained unchanged for decades. Walking through the city with my parents, we always spot places with history for our family. Here's how to have a 3-day foodie adventure you'll remember.

Expect hot, humid summers, snowy winters, a vibrant autumn, and wet spring.

If you only have time for one thing, make it pizza in the North End, Boston’s historically Italian area.

Day 1

Start your Boston eating adventure in the North End, a historically Italian neighborhood with a rich heritage and an abundance of restaurants. Try a slice of Boston pizza, sample Italian charcuterie, and learn where to get the best cannoli in the neighborhood.

Afterwards, walk a short distance to Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, where a wide variety of vendors sell local Boston food products. If you visit on a Friday or Saturday, pass through Haymarket, a weekly produce market that pops up in the heart of the city.

Day 2

On your second day in Boston, head to the Seaport District and sample the fresh seafood that is abundant in the city. Try a lobster roll, a bowl of clam chowder, fried clams, and other seafood delicacies.

Next, cleanse your palate with a deep dive into Boston’s favorite dessert: doughnuts. There are doughnut shops all over Boston, from the widespread Dunkin’s to small artisanal doughnut shops. Make sure to sample cider doughnuts.

Day 3

Start today in Boston’s South End to get a sense of the variety of cuisines that exist in this small city. Try French-Cambodian fusion, Venezuelan snacks, and more, and enjoy the chance to wander through this scenic neighborhood.

Afterwards, get to know Boston’s beer scene on a brewery tour. Visit the Sam Adams Brewery and the Harpoon Brewery, Boston’s two best-known local breweries, among other spots. Sample local brews and ciders.
