3 Days in Fort Myers for Foodies

Curated by Nick Dauka travel writer based in Florida.

Southwest Florida is exactly where you want to be if your tastebuds dictate upscale seafood dining. Between the waterside dining on the Caloosahatchee River and the sandy restaurants perched on Fort Myers Beach, you’ll have no trouble finding a table with a view.

Seafood is readily available, both at fine dining restaurants and relaxed eateries, but don’t limit yourself to grub from the Gulf. Farm-to-table comfort food and a variety of international dishes are easy to find, too. Best of all, it’s not difficult to spend three days enjoying the water while staying close to some of the best food in Fort Myers.

Outdoor dining is tempting, but remember that the heat is strong—especially in summer.

If you only have time for one thing, make it sunset dinner on nearby Sanibel Island.

Day 1

Ease into your vacation on your first day in Fort Myers. Slide on your boat shoes, slip on your swimsuit, and board a catamaran for a relaxing cruise. You’ll see the sights resting on Sanibel Island and throughout Fort Myers Beach before heading back to shore. Cristof’s on McGregor is an excellent spot for lunch.

If you still feel like “sitting” around and relaxing with the water in view, consider doing so from above the water. Get strapped into a parasail and see the city from 400 feet (122 meters) in the air. Such an adventure warrants a steak dinner at locally owned KJ’s Steakhouse.

Day 2

What’s on the menu for day two? Shark. Head out onto the Gulf waters and try your hand at catching sharks, redfish, snapper, and grouper.

Take the rest of the day to explore Fort Myers. Stop in at the Seed and Bean Market where you can find traditional, plant-based, and hemp/CBD-fused items on the menu. Next, head over to Sanibel Island for dinner with a sunset. Then, when the sun and moon trade places for the night, join a haunted history tour of Naples.

Day 3

After gorging on all of the seafood you’ve sniffed out during your trip, work off some of those calories on your last day in town. Explore Lovers Key on a guided eco-tour where you might spot dolphins or manatees from your kayak or canoe.

If you’ve got a rental car and plenty of time on your trip, drive up to Venice for another kayaking tour. Look for shark teeth and gorgeous shells on the beaches you’ll explore.

Foodies will have plenty of dining options in Venice, but for sunset, choose either Pop’s Sunset Grill for burgers or NoKoMos Sunset Hut for Caribbean bites.
