3 Days in Seoul for Families

Curated by Laurel Steelewho spent a year working with children in Seoul.

When I worked as an English teacher in Seoul, my students rushed me every Monday to share what they’d done over the weekend. While their grammar wasn’t always perfect, their enthusiasm needed no translation, as they described memorable days at Everland Theme Park, Bukchon Hanok Village, and other attractions around the city.

If you’re planning a family vacation in the Korean capital, fret not. There’s no shortage of kid-friendly activities and attractions, all of which adults will enjoy, too. From UNESCO-listed palaces to high-energy live performances, Seoul has something to suit even the shortest attention span.

Seoul can experience multiple seasons in a day, including plenty of precipitation.

If your family only has time for one thing, make it a leisurely visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace.

Day 1

Begin your Korean adventure at Gyeongbokgung Palace. Offering expansive spaces to burn off energy, cultural performances, and a storied history, this centrally located attraction is a hit with all ages. Rent hanbok (traditional Korean dress) and capture your vacation with an unbeatable backdrop.

Spend the afternoon discovering Seoul in a neighborhood that will satisfy everyone’s interests: Insadong. A 15-minute walk from the palace, its main pedestrian street overflows with trendy shops, traditional toys, and unique restaurants.

Finally, kick up your feet and watch a live performance by the Painters of Jongno.

Day 2

After a day of historical attractions, take the family to every Korean child's dream destination: Everland. The country's largest theme park boasts rides for timid kids and adrenaline-pumping roller coasters for the more spirited child. Plus, there's a panda enclosure for the whole family to visit.

Alternatively, spend the day at COEX Aquarium. Here, you’ll see an array of sea life from Korea and around the world. Open morning to evening, there’s no need to worry about strict start times. At night, take a relaxing cruise along the Han River.

Day 3

For your third day, leave Seoul’s hustle and bustle behind and take the family to three of Korea’s most family-friendly attractions. Begin on Nami Island where you can walk amongst the vibrant natural landscapes, rent bikes, take an electric tour train, and get up close to the island’s free-range ostriches.

Next, visit the nearby French-themed cultural village Petite France. Kids can explore the colorful buildings, watch a puppet show, and try plaster art.

Later, head to Gapyeong Rail Park, where everyone can hop on a rail bike. Or stroll through the lush grounds of the Garden of Morning Calm.
