As a city built on seven hills, Lisbon is full of fantastic spots to take in city views, from designated overlooks complete with cafés and facilities to historic monuments. Here are just a few places where you can see some of the finest views over the Portuguese capital.

Miradouro da Senhora do Monte

For sunset sights.

The highest of Lisbon's miradouros, or vista points, this spot is great for sunset photography and has a hilltop bar for snacking and drinking. It's a steep climb on foot, so many come here on e-bike tours instead.

Miradouro da Graça

For castle vistas.

At the top of Santo André hill, this overlook features a shaded plaza with views out over St. George's Castle and the Targus beyond. If you don't want to hike to the top of the hill, you can catch a ride on the hop-on hop-off tram.

Portas do Sol

For sweeping cityscapes.

Situated between the Castelo de São Jorge (St. George's Castle) and the cathedral, the Portas do Sol lookout features gorgeous views over the city's terracotta rooftops, with a terrace café to rest your legs. This is another good spot to photograph the changing colors of the city at sunset.

Belém Tower (Torre de Belém)

For classic city panoramas.

One of the most popular attractions in Lisbon, this UNESCO World Heritage Site tower offers fantastic views over the city from the bulwark terrace, particularly at sunset; book your tickets ahead of time to avoid long lines at the ticket office.

Miradouro São Pedro de Alcântara

For views over top Lisbon attractions.

At the top of a hill in the Bairro Alto, this vista point offers views of Lisbon Cathedral and the São Vicente de Fora Monastery. You can ascend via the Gloria Elevator or take a tuk-tuk or Segway tour to the top.
