Monkeyland

This sanctuary offers visitors the opportunity to see squirrel monkeys in a natural jungle habitat. Located in Punta Cana, the 5-acre (2-hectare) park gives the monkeys plenty of space to roam freely—although they often come over to greet guests. The park also boasts lush botanical gardens with medicinal plants, flowers, and fruit trees.

The Basics

A visit to Monkeyland is a fun activity for children and adults alike. The monkeys are cared for by a Canadian couple who have worked with animals for decades—their strong bond has helped the primates become comfortable with visitors. In fact, the monkeys often try to sit on visitors’ shoulders or eat from their hands.

Visitors typically come to the park on guided tours, which involve commentary and a chance for supervised interaction with the animals. Hotel transfers and safari truck transport to the park are frequently included. Some tours also visit local coffee and cacao plantations for tastings. Another option is to combine a visit to Monkeyland with a zipline adventure, buggy tour, or other outdoor pursuits.
