Overview

The Matanuska Glacier is Alaska's largest glacier accessible by road, and offers the most accessible areas to walk on of any glacier in Alaska. If you don't want to tackle the winter drive yourself, this guided tour can take you there and lead you on a trek across the ice. Lunch at a local restaurant is included.

Travelers should have a moderate physical fitness level
Our minimum age to join the tour is 8 years old. For groups with younger individuals, explore our Private Matanuska Glacier option.
A full water bottle (we do not provide single use containers)
This tour/activity will have a maximum of 15 travelers

Cancellation Policy

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.

For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.

Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
This experience requires a minimum number of travelers. If it’s canceled because the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund.

Well worth it

Guide was friendly, knowledgeable, excellent driver. Had lots of trivia abut area and alaska in general. Made interesting comparisons between Alaskan features and I other features in the lower 48 and around the world. Was patient making sure folks could l Keep up. And picked a nice place for a delicious lunch.

The tour is amazing! Our guide is Bill. He is professional and knows a lot to the glacier. The beautiful weather makes the scenery even more surprising! The only flaw is the lunch included is just not bad not good…but you can have a good view in the restaurant.

What an experience! At the last minute (night before the tour) we decided our cold gear from Florida might not be enough to keep us warm on the glacier. Matt arranged for us to have cold gear and got us all set to enjoy our day! He and Carly were great guides! Took this tour with my 9 year old son, although we had a rough start getting his hat, gloves and face mask comfortably situated, once we did that it was smooth going.

A lifetime experience. The glacier views in winter are legendary. Highly recommend. It can be quite cold in some parts of the hiking trip. Consider using hand and toe warmers to increase the comfortable level.

Good advice on the hand warmers, we want you to be as warm and comfortable while exploring Alaska's largest glacier accessible by road! During the winter months (November - March) you'll want to wear plenty of cold-weather gear. We recommend: synthetic or wool long underwear, snow boots, warm socks, winter coat, neck gaiter or scarf, and hat and gloves. This tour was really great! We happened to arrive on a picture perfect spring day. The sun was out the right amount of clouds were out, perfect for photos. Our guides, Matt and Sean, were both very informative and friendly. Couldn't ask for a better experience.

Loved our tour to the glacier. It was a memorable experience. Only reason I did not give it a 5 star was due to our guide (Matt) he didn’t talk or explain anything to the group, I had to ask questions, honestly we would of been better off on our own(if we could of). I asked if we could take a picture in one of the most popular areas shown in the reviews, he said no. No explanation, just no. It was a long 2 hour drive there and back with….. crickets, no music, no nothing.

Matt and Sean were great! We had a lovely time and learned a lot about glacier formation and movement. It was a gorgeous hike, and the meal at the end was delicious - we’ve definitely paid more for food I didn’t enjoy nearly as much.

We had a memorable day hiking the Matanuska Glacier. We got picked up from our hotel in a timely manner. The glacier itself is mesmerizing. Our 9 year old and 12 year old were taken away by the beauty of it. Our guides Sean and Matt were very knowledgeable, and well prepared with the gear. After the hike we went to have lunch. The restaurant has amazing views and the food was delicious. All in all, everything about the tour was great and I would highly recommend it. Ps: For the winter tours, do not forget to wear multiple layers and have hand warmers / toe warmers. Without the appropriate gear this tour might become miserable.
