Love the experience. Super fun, safe and peaceful!!!! Will totally recommenced. The canoe ride was beautiful and peaceful. The sand on the mangroves was so smooth it feels like silk and learning how to catch the crabs and fishing was so much fun!

Great Food, Great People, Fun Experience

As many before me have written this is a wonderful experience. John, our intrepid and good looking guide, helped us explore some true Colombian culture. On top of marginally learning the art of net casting and correct baiting and location for crab pots, I learned firsthand the honesty and friendliness of the local fisherfolk. I dropped my iPhone in the waist deep water and swore a lot. A total of seven locals stopped everything to look for it going as far as spreading a 20 meter fishing net to drag the bottom. Unfortunately it was lost. Thank goodness I took out phone insurance this time. I declared the phone lost and we took our fish and crab catch to some other locals to book and feed us. While eating our spectacular fresh caught lunch John received a phone call. The fisherfolk had continued to search and had found my phone. The fisherman showed up about 15 minutes later with my phone! Incredible!! John had urged me not to lose hope. To top it off, the phone was still powered on and functioning perfectly. Yes, I gave the man a reward!

10/10 The best tour in Cartagena. Hands down!

Best tour we experienced in Columbia. We did many many tours and this crabbing tour is a winner. Our translator John was the best and we went crabbing, fishing, saw beautiful nature, met incredibly friendly locals and fishermen. Ate a delicious lunch on the beach and just felt at peace. This is the tour that all nature and culture lovers should experience. 10/10. Perfect! Thank you for an excellent experience!

Perfect family experience for when you're tired of the big city

A truly memorable experience in an amazing ecological treasure. This is our favorite tour we took during our two week family trip in Colombia; the standouts were that this was an activity that could be enjoyed by my 86 year old Father in Law as well as my 9 year old child. We did not want an 8 hour trip so this was the perfect length, we had time in the morning for our adventure and to head home and rest during the hottest part of the day. The canoe ride is peaceful and calm and I recommend starting out as early as possible to take advantage of the cool and quiet in the Mangrove forest. We all tried out casting the nets for fishing in the traditional fashion as well as enjoyed crabbing. It was lovely to see the water foul and feel the Caribbean breeze as we gently navigated the waterways. Andres is a perfect guide, switching seamlessly between Spanish and impeccable English, has loads of patience and a sense of humor. He and Michael have perfect communication and make it easy to ask questions and provide lots of detail if you are a planner! The only thing I would have changed is packed a midmorning snack as we started out so early and ate lunch around noon, but besides that we were provided a very comprehensive list of what to bring and the lunch was fresh, delicious, and fun to eat beachside. We were treated with such warmth by the fishermen and our guide, our family left grateful we were able to catch a glimpse into this magical natural preserve. Don't be shy to reach out to ask specific questions from this tour, they have no communication barriers and are open to explain all aspects, they were willing to help create an experience that worked for all of us.

Crabbing!

This was an awesome experience. The key was the guide Andres. He was very knowledgeable and shared the info in a perfect conversational way. He was very receptive to any requests we had including driving us through the congested Old Town on the way back to the ship. The harvesting of the crabs was memorable as we dropped the traps in the shallow water nad then returned 15 minutes later to retrive the traps and dump the crabs into a bucket. We also stood calf deep in the water and cast a circular fishing net. Unfortunately we did not catch any fish! Once we returned to shore, we headed to a small, local restaurant on the beach where they cooked the crabs which we had for lunch along with a locally caught fish. We are always looking for a "real" experience and this was definitely one of them!

We unanimously agreed that this was the best excursion on our recent trip to Cartagena! John took good care of us and was friendly and knowledgeable. The experience itself was so much fun between setting and pulling up the crab traps in addition to learning to cast a net. The island that we took a break on was a great break out of the sun between the music and the bartender making a fantastic coco loco! We also loved the meal we had at the end and playing with the dogs. I Would definitely recommend this tour! Thanks John!

Fun and Fishing in the Mangroves.

We enjoyed the short tour of the old town as well as the unique crab fishing experience. A visit to fisherman island was fun and the cooked crab (we caught) and fish was super. And, lunch on the locals’ beach was a unique experience. John, our guide was great.

Everything about this trip was awesome! John was our English translator and he was amazing. He picked us up at the cruise port and gave us a quick informative tour of the city on our way to the mangroves. We caught tons of crabs which we ate for lunch. Fed raccoons and had cocktails on the island. I highly recommend this experience!

Excellent adventure for all ages

The whole experience was very fun. Andres, the translator guide was great. He was enthusiastic about the adventure, is a good driver and his English is excellent. The fisherman was nice and alert to making sure we got good photos. The lunch after was a nice chance to see local families enjoying the beach. It was fun to eat the crab we caught.

Well planned and well executed tour with a superior guide and driver Andres. We glided thru peaceful mangroves, learned how to cast a net to catch crabs, saw a sustainable fish farm in development, drank Coco Locos in the shade, and ate a delicious lunch.

Best excursion out there

We went on a 15 day cruise and this was by far our favorite excursion of the trip. Our group had 4 adults and 3 kids. John and Chris picked us up from the cruise port and drove us up to the mangroves where we boarded the canoes. John stayed with us as a translator and he was absolutely amazing. The mangroves were beautiful and full of wildlife that was pointed out to us. Then we stopped to do some fishing and crabbing. The water is very shallow. We were all grateful to cool off in the water while we learned to fish with nets. They also gave each of us a cold water bottle. Then they taught us how to set the crab traps. Afterwards we went to a small island and got to hold some turtles, feed some raccoons, dance and play instruments, and drink straight from coconuts (the kids opted for apple soda). (There is a small fee to visit the island but it’s definitely worth it) After the island we went back to the canoes and learned how to pull up the crab traps and dump the crabs into buckets. Then we went back to the beach and ate the amazing lunch that was prepared for us. I got the fish which was outstanding. Two of my kids got the chicken and one got the veggie (beans) plate. Then we were able to eat all the crab we caught. Everyone loved all the food. On the drive back, Chris and John took us through the walled city and pointed out a lot of the history of the city. They were both so kind and knowledgeable. This was the absolute highlight of our trip. I would highly recommend this excursion to anyone coming to the Cartegena area.

Nature oriented tour

I loved this tour, nature at its best! We were picked up from the Hotel at the agreed time and they drove us about 30 minutes to the remote location from where we started the tour. Elias, the guide and the two of us in a canoe. We were immersed in the swamp where we threw the tramps to go back later to get the crabs that were later cooked for us. The lunch was delicious, right in front of the sea. We then changed clothing and returned to the Hotel.

Loved the experience and highly recommend it! We learned Colombian fishing techniques using a cast net, caught two types of crabs thru a unique wire box, and enjoyed a "coco loco” drink to the sound of drumbeats on a local fishing island. We were in cartegena for a week and this was a major highlight. After finishing, we enjoyed the fresh fish and crabs we just caught. This is a great activity for people of all ages and physical fitness, as you can do a lot of the fishing and crabbing or be more of an observer (we had all levels on our trip and they were very accommodating). Many thanks to Michael and the team at Everything Cartegena travel for making our trip so memorable!
