Totumo Volcano (El Totumo) ranks among Cartagena’s most popular day trips. A small volcanic caldera has become a top attraction—a naturally heated bath of grayish brown silt. After bobbing around in the soupy mix, head to the lagoon next door to wash off the mineral-rich mud, thought to have therapeutic properties.
This really exceeded my expectations. True the volcano itself isn’t very impressive looking but the sensation of being in the mud is so interesting! The views are pretty as well! We had an absolute blast!
The tipping is a little uncomfortable and overwhelming as everyone is waiting for theirs at the end (the guy who massaged you, the guys taking your pics, and the women who helped you get the mud off). So just be prepared and have your monies ready to go.
It’s an awesome experience!
Angel was AMAZING. Literally the best we spoke a lot, and I learned a lot about Cartagena. We even got sugar cane juice and sugar cane and I got to juice the sugar cane. Super cool. He made the experience extremely personal and I will forever be greatful. If I could give 10 stars I would.
Juliana was great she spoke both language and gave the tour in Spanish and English. She also was very knowledgeable about the sites and every stop we made. Loved the mud experience 💙 it was amazing. Am so glad I did this while I was there.totally recommend.
The tour guide was helpful, The tour itself was a dope experience and the locals were friendly. The only bad part was the lunch/snack that was offered.
A few hiccups on the way there including our van breaking down which in the grand scheme was no big deal, another coach was sent and we were on our way. This volcanic mud exp was INCREDIBLE. One of the coolest things I've done EVER.
This was an AWESOME experience!! Our tour guide was absolutely the best! She made sure we were taken care and gave clear directions! Book this tour you will not regret it!!!
We loved lying/standing in the mud in the Volcano and getting a lovely massage while lying in the mud.
We also loved getting washed off in the river, but we wished we were advised that we needed to give many tips (propinas) to everyone who helped make our experience so memorable. We would have taken adequate bills for everyone. Their help was well worth the tips!
We had so much fun touring the salt museum and pink sea and then taking the plunge into the volcanic mud! Great tour and so much fun! Yulianna was a great tour guide! She even sang us the salt song!
The history and people were friendly and the experience was out of this world. The commute from our hotel was a bit long, however the tour guide made it fun along the journey.
