The pick up worked very well and we linked up with the other people on the tour efficiently before travelling up into the wooded lower slopes of Etna. A short walk took us to see where the lava flow of the 2002 eruption had ended and we were able to climb up onto the lava for a better view. We then drove up to see a lava cave, climbing down and through it wearing caving helmets. Our next stop was to Monti Sartorius to see an area where an eruption took place in 1865. We hiked up from the road to the top of the former craters from where there were excellent view of the surrounding area. After a short lunch break at a refugio where we were served with two types of delicious pasta, we moved on to the Alcantara Gorge. The walls of the gorge, with their basalt columns, were amazing. We waded along the fairly shallow river to get a closer look at the walls. The water was freezing! We were then returned to our drop off point. It was an excellent day. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, kind and patient and managed the group with a very light touch so that you never felt rushed and had plenty of time to enjoy each of the incredible locations that we visited. He was able to answer any questions put to him. I would certainly recommend this trip to others.

The hike was good. We met some great people on the tour. The guide was very nice and tried hard to speak English as well as Italian. Wear shoes with tread but bring a towel, good water shoes and a swimsuit for The Gorge. The Gorge was awesome. I wish we would have upgraded and paid more for the lunch at the vineyards and I wish the waters would have been in coolers and at least cool. Beware no bathrooms on trail until lunch. Overall recommend highly.

Thank you for the kind review and for giving all these suggestions to future travelers. Yes, our option with lunch and wine tasting at a local Etna winery is certainly very interesting, in particular if someone has a passion for wine it's surely a nice option to evaluate!

I don’t know about all the other excursions and how they are, but this one was excellent. I would recommend it to anyone. The guides were so nice and so helpful. It made us all feel like one big family together.
