Nice trip to the desert

Wonderful guide and a nice tour. If you have extra time in Qatar and want to get outside this city then it’s worth it. See some nice landscape and the art piece by Richard Serra. My guide stopped and showed some unscheduled stops to see how people live in the desert. The camel race track was fun.

The mushroom rocks. The vehicle and driver were excellent. The camel racing track is interesting but no camels to see. Desert formations, (yardangs) very impressive, especially the eye rock. The man-made sculptures are surreal, like "2001, A Space Oddyssea"

Enjoyable Detour Out West

Salman was a wonderful tour guide. Very accommodating, informed, and helpful. Allowed us to take our time at each site. The Richard Serra sculpture was an other-worldly experience to take in. Reminded me of Kubrick’s 2001 A Space Odyssey. Note, Film City is currently closed at this time, so we were unable to visit that site.

Great Communication and Flexibility

When I had a flight change and was unable to meet for this trip, they offered me a night tour (midnight to 5am of the city) so that I would at least get a sense of the city before my next flight. Unfortunately immigration gave me a hard time (I had all the documentation needed; they kept asking me for more, until finally they told me that the PCR test I had had in Abudhabi 8 hours prior was not valid and I needed another, there, which would take 2-3 hours) and would not let me leave the airport, even though the driver was waiting for me. The fifth of the officers I spoke to said: It's night. Everything is closed. Why do you want to leave? The airport has shopping, hotels, and restaurants. Now go to the transit area. You can come back another time and stay a few days." What? I had planned a 26 hour layover on my way back to the US. I don't know if it is because I am a woman traveling alone, but the immigration people were rude, mean, and denied me access to the driver and city. Had I not had the wonderfully warm, thoughtful exchanges with the driver and organizer of this tour, I would think very badly of all of Qatar. Thank you Sharif and Imran for your flexibility and kindness, for working with me and trying so hard to show me your city!
