Trip highlight
Jean_M, Apr 2024
This was the most memorable highlights of our trip to PR! Seeing the micro-organisms glow at night was spectacular! We forgot our bug spray, and were thrilled that the gift shop sold it. A must have for this trip.
One Amazing Experience / Bioluminescent Bay Fajardo
Luis_R, Mar 2024
This is a must do if you are in the area. We have done the Parquera as well, but this one with kayaking thru the mangroves, and spending time on the bay is transcendent. My wife and I (fifties) and our teenage son (16) found it doable and each of us was overwhelmed by the experience. The staff; especially Michie and Joe made sure to enhance the experience with their passion, experience and professionalism. Yes, they do the tour in English, but also in Spanish so nothing is lost. They do 2 tours, we did the 6pm tour and got to see the sunset on the lake and the mangroves prior to darkness. And they make sure you see the bio luminescent organisms!!! a guarantee not avail in La Parquera
Awesome spot

Great tour guides and the bio bay was awesome. Try to schedule around a new moon so it’s darkest in the sky.
We had so much fun on...

We had so much fun on this tour! The lagoon sparkled and the night was beautiful. Also, Joe is THE BEST!!
Use another company for this type of tour
RICHARD_H, Mar 2024
We recently completed a night-time kayak trip w/Peniel and it was a mess. With this company, you go into a kayak and pretty much paddle completely in the dark in a single-file line through a narrow mangrove lane. B/C there are no lights on the kayaks, you have to follow the kayak in front of you which has a small, barely visible glow ring on it (some of the kayaks were missing them as well!) and the teenager tour guides have nothing organized and just yell at the participants to "stay to the right" where there is a traffic jam of companies taking people out to the bay and in at the same time. So, you can't see if you are going to literally run into another kayaker, or the mangrove trees. Once in the bay, a very UN-funny and awkward tour guide roped us all together, and then started harassing us because we didn't know her name (she had not even told us!) and then proceeded to provide UN-helpful information about the bay. It was super awkward. This person kept asking if there were questions but it was all silence as we weren't on the tour to ask questions... we were there to see the bio-organisms light up. While the trip itself was somewhat interesting (to see the bioluminescent organisms), Peniel was disorganized and on the way back into the dock area, there was ZERO communications between this company and the other 10 kayak companies in this compound and kayakers coming in/out were just running into each other in the corridor from the dock to the bay. It was very dangerous and disorganized, and my kids anxiety levels went through the roof as kayaking in the dark in a busy/small lane wasn't fun and people could have been easily hurt. I strongly recommend to anyone considering the Fajardo bioluminescent kayaking to avoid Peniel and make sure to pick a different company that distributes life jackets that have small orange lights on them as it will make a big difference in your experience
BEST company to go on this adventure!

BEST group for this adventure. It was an especially dark night because of the cloud coverage and waxing crescent moon and our guides were absolutely terrific - well organized, experienced and knowledgeable (unlike the other disorganized, unsafe, dangerous and chaotic groups). Kayaking through the mangroves in the pitch black and arriving at the bay felt like we were in Pirates of the Caribbean. The bioluminescence was beautiful and the kayak adventure was really fun and unique. The guides went above and beyond for my aging parents - Joe towed my parents the entire time! He was so kind, energetic and lovely about it all. Also, my husband has difficulties with his legs and they were fantastic and helped him get in and out of the kayak with no problems. My teenage daughters had a blast with Emily and the other male guide (so sorry I forgot his name) who was funny and fun and showed us a jelly fish from the bay. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this adventure with THIS group!
Kayak chaos!
Kerry_S, Mar 2024
The general bioluminescence was cool but not amazing enough for all the negative aspects of this. We had a group of 15 double kayaks. It was apparent that many did not have kayaking experience. We needed to paddle in the dark in a channel in a row, while others were passing on the other side. There were kayaks sideways, backwards. Paddles were hitting you. Kayaks were hitting you. The tour guides did not seem to be capable of handling any of this at all. If anything, the tour guides caused more chaos. When we got to the bay, we sat tied together, all 15 double kayaks, for a good 20 to 30 minutes while someone tried to explain the bio luminescence. The tour group was too large for me to hear anything. There were many other tour groups out there as well so lots of background noise. We had to stop a number of times on the way back because there were small boats and other kayaking groups that were passing. It was chaotic again- sideways kayaks, backwards kayaks, paddles and kayaks hitting. Kayak chaos. Save your money!
Fantastic

Kayaking in the mangroves in the dark and to see the bioluminescence was amazing. The tour guides were great keeping track of all the kayaker’s.

A must see if you are in Puerto Rico. Very professional staff and good instruction if you have never kayaked before. The bio bay is just incredible to witness.
Wonderful experience but...
Claudine_D, Feb 2024
Wonderful experience but I had trouble seeing in the dark during the kayak ride to the area. A little more light would have helped on the way to the lagoon and on the way back.
Lots of chaos, barely to zero luminescence, lame
Michael_C, Feb 2024
There was barely any lumenesense, the kayak trip was completely dark, congested with dozens of other kayakers and very dangerous. Tree limbs sticking out just waiting to take your eye out while you kayak in pitch black canopy forest. Be prepared to bump into other kayakers and possibly get hit by paddles . Chaos.
Response from Host, Feb 2024
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on your recent biobay night kayaking experience. We appreciate hearing about your perspective and want to address your concerns. Firstly, regarding the luminescence, we understand your disappointment. While we cannot control the intensity of the bioluminescence, we do our best to provide an enjoyable experience even in darker conditions. The title "biobay night kayaking" does suggest a nocturnal setting, where natural light may be limited. Regarding the congestion you experienced, we apologize for any inconvenience. Biobay night kayaking tours can indeed attract a significant number of visitors, especially during peak seasons. We strive to manage this as best as we can, but it can still result in crowded conditions. For future reference, we advise avoiding busy periods if you prefer a quieter experience. We take safety very seriously, and we're sorry to hear you felt the trip was dangerous. Our guides are trained to navigate through the area safely, and while there may be natural obstacles like tree limbs, we work to minimize risks. We'll certainly review our procedures to see if there are any improvements we can make. Once again, we appreciate your feedback, and we hope you'll consider giving us another chance in the future. If you have any further concerns or would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly. Best regards, Alexander
World of wonder in darkness
Judy_S, Feb 2024
Illuminating microbes with your hand and paddles was amazing. Brilliant stars after we left on this moonless night. Navigating slowly with the guides helped us feel safe in full darkness. Wandering in the lagoon gave us room to wander a bit. A bag of chips and water as we waked away energized us to get us home. Went on the 7:30 pm excursion.
Great activity - highly recommend!
Melissa_S, Feb 2024
Family of 4 (two kids 6 and 9) took the 7:30pm kayak trip. It was a nice time because it was in between when some of the other tour companies go out, so the way to the bio bay is less crowded. It is very dark, but fun to paddle through the mangrove trees. We saw iguanas resting on the trees and fish swimming next to us! The night we went the bay was really glowing and it was beautiful. The tour guides did a great job keeping us together and teaching us about the bay. Would recommend this trip! Very unique experience.
Beth’s Birthday Bash

My four siblings and their spouses came to Puerto Rico to celebrate our eldest sister’s 65th birthday! This was one of our family outings. So fun!!!
It was a fun experience

Kayaking through dark canals and experiencing the bioluminescent water. I also enjoyed the bioluminescent fish jumping. I would like to kayak that during the day to be able to see all the vegetation.
