Overview

Combine hiking, waterfall swimming, and local cuisine with this tour in Las Monas Rainforest. You'll spend time learning about local plant life and cooling off in waterfall pools, with the option to jump from the top of some of the falls if you dare. Our guides joah Jefferson and Pablo were amazing! They made sure we were safe the whole time. They showed us beautiful waterfalls, and we got to see a toucan and tree frogs. The snacks were yummy, but lunch .. so delicious!!! Def recommend

This was one of my most unexpected days on my trip. It was incredible and beautiful and memorable! Just a wonderful day. I'd like to share a few things - it's not 2.5 hours. It was more like 4.5 hours. Not complaining! I loved every single minute! Prepare to get wet! We climbed, hiked, swam in rivers, showered in waterfalls! It was amazing! Our guides were amazing special thanks to Joel for hanging back when we decided not to head to the top very knowledgeable on surrounding plants and gave us interesting information The lunch was amazing and the staff also highly recommend 😀

Challenging and rewarding hike!

We are a family of 3 active individuals (parents and one teen) there was one other individual on the hike with us and he was an active person, too. This is a challenging hike--all agreed on that. You need decent shoes that you can get wet. Take minimal stuff with you and expect it to get wet. We had a great time hiking with our guide Sebastian. He was encouraging when the ropes that one needs to use to hike up rocks with no hiking path were a challenge. It was a fun trip that we'd recommend to families who are active. Little kids aren't likely to be up to the challenge of the whole hike. We were happy to take a break and have a snack of fruit provided by guide at one of the waterfalls. We were also very happy with the casado lunch and beverage provided afterwards! Do not book this hike if you are looking for a relaxing and low-key hike to waterfalls, this is an active adventure!

Extreme fun!

Pablo and Jefferson, our guides, were excellent. The hike is a bit strenuous, but it’s broken up with dips in pools fed by waterfalls so you can cool off. Quite the adventure, and not for the faint of heart, and we loved it! It was my wife, me and our 13-year-old son and our 11-year-old daughter and they had no problem navigating the hike. The food at the local restaurant afterwards was delightful.

Our tour guide, Pablo, was very considerate and understanding during our hike. He also took the time to answer the numerous questions we had about Costa Rica and gave some insight into what it was like when he was younger. He was very knowledgable about the animals that live in the area we were hiking in and overall it was a very enjoyable experience.

A great little adventure (and the meal was excellent)

Thanks to Pablo for an extraordinary outing. My wife and I were his only clients. Pablo was kind, generous in conversation, helpful and mindful of our security at all times. The falls and pools were awesome, the 8 km hike in and out a reasonable challenge but there were a few rickety parts. Wear running shoes and socks - they will get wet within the first minute but will be well worth it!

Must do waterfall hike

This was one of the best vacation tours our family has ever done. Request Pablo as your guide if you can. He speaks perfect English, is very knowledgeable and funny as well. His assistant Johan (not sure of spelling?) was great too! Make sure you have good sneakers or water shoes as you will get wet and there are some slippery parts. The lunch that was provided at the end was delicious. And one can’t forget the cutest 4-legged tour guide Lucy that joined in on our hike.

An Exceptional Experience & Perfect Day

Our guide Pablo was so wonderful! He made it such a great day for me and my 2 girlfriends. He was patient with us and made sure we all were able to safely make the ascent up to each of the waterfalls. He gave great instructions on the path & placement of our feet for all of us and waited until the last of us was able to make it up the rope or path and provided assistance when needed to ensure our safety. We have all talked about it nonstop & how it was such an incredible day for each of us. I would highly recommend this adventure to anyone and I highly recommend Pablo as a guide as he was exceptional in guiding us, carrying all of our garb & taking so many pictures for us & keeping our camera phones safe & dry.

Tour Requires a Good Fitness Level

I caution people when booking this tour. You should be prepared with proper footwear for climbing rocks with a rope, narrow trails with rocks that are somewhat dangerous and have sufficient water for the 3 hour tour. People should have a good level of fitness in order to traverse these conditions. The local cuisine that was included was delicious!!!

Hike of a lifetime

This was a beautiful hike. This hike is HARD. You cannot do it if elderly or not in supreme health. There is rock climbing using ropes, you must be able to swim bc you have to swim across to get to one of the watwrfalls. It's an excellent workout. The guides were so friendly and fun.

Totally worth it. I’m 1 month from being 59, I don’t workout, am female. Was a bit anxious from other reviews about being strenuous. I did great and the experience was awesome. I suggest you invest in a waterproof camera carrier. Mine was around my neck and available for many pics. I had good hiking sandals (Hoka Hopara) which were awesome. We had fruit at the top! Walked over bridges, used rope to climb up inclines that I would estimate at 45 degrees, jumped from low rocks (but could have gone higher) into the waterfall ponds, swam up to the falls (I’m not a swimmer and the force of the falls was awesome to experience but manageable) Overall 3 miles of walking. Lunch afterwards was awesome as most reviews said. Overall I was proud of myself, had a great time, experienced great nature and the 3 guides we had for a group of 10 were awesome. This is by far one of my best activities during my 9 days in CR.

This was an incredible experience! Our tour guide Pablo was by far the best tour guide we’ve ever had. He went ABOVE and beyond, it ended up only being my partner and I, Pablo was so knowledgeable about the rainforest and Costa Rica in general! Spending those hours with him felt like gaining a new friend! He was so genuine and kind spirited and became our personal photographer throughout, which left us with so many wonderful captured memories! The hike was beautiful and challenging (in the best way possible). The waterfalls were stunning and refreshing! My partner and I are in pretty good shape so opted on doing the more challenging options of the water fall climbing at the end and it was EXHILARATING! Also the Soda we ate lunch at after was delicious, by far the best soda we experienced on our trip. Also if you get a chance, stop at one of the stands and get some pipa fria, you won’t be sorry.

Hiking is not for the timid. Your feet will get wet, and you will get dirty. The scenery is amazing! Well worth the trip! And the food at the end of the adventure is wonderful! We went back again to enjoy the local good eats!!!

Adventure Hike in the Jungle

We had an awesome time! I did this hike with my boyfriend and we are pretty active people - we run, hike, walk, and workout regularly. We still found this to be on of the toughest hikes we've ever done in the best way possible. It was challenging and beautiful. There are at least 10 waterfalls and we had the opportunity to stop at two swimming holes. We were the only ones on the trail so it was truly a unique experience. We were joined by two guides and another couple who was also having a great time. The guides were really helpful and while the hike was challenging, they were very accommodating giving us a few breaks in between tough climbs. The lunch was also excellent and a great reward after a long hike! Highly recommend!!! Some tips: Your shoes will definitely get wet. We went in running shoes and they were soaked by the end so hiking sandals might be the best route to go. There are a few moments where you'll cross water that comes up to your chest so if you have a backpack, you'll have to hold it over your head. Just a warning!

We loved our waterfall hike adventure. Pablo and his crew were wonderful guides. It was, however, not what I would consider a moderate hike and not getting wet is not an option. We had to walk through a (shallow) river and through waterfall pools to continue on our trail. Many times we had to climb steep terrain holding on to ropes. We were up for the challenge but felt a little unprepared based on the activity description. Tips for future hikers-good water shoes you can also hike and climb in (think Keens or something like that). Bathing suit is a must because you WILL get wet. This hike would definitely not be safe for those with limited mobility or small children. For reference, our party was one adult and two teenagers. Two other families were part of our group.
