Outstanding tour to see a whopping 7 UNESCO sites in one day. It’s very relaxing and non-rush. My guide, Ram Timsina, is top-notch. He would patiently explain everything in details while making sure I’m well taken care of. I recommend this tour.

The temple areas were the most impressive and worthwhile to see. The history of the squares was interesting, but probably not worth the entrance fees. Our guide was a history student and very knowledgeable. While we couldn't see certain areas as foreigners he knew how to get around so we could get a glimpse of Hindu traditions. A great tour if you want to see everything.

Its a very busy tour where you learn a lot. Our guide was okay, but we couldn’t communicate too well. Since its not entirely private you cant freely shop or have a coffee on the way.

We took a guided, private tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu. It was long, but definitely worth it. We got to spend one to two hours at each of six sites. The 2015 earthquake affected a significant swath of Nepal, particularly Kathmandu, which killed many and destroyed numerous structures including the seven World Heritage Sites. Amazingly, during the last eight years, they have rebuilt many of the structures, including the seven sites, which have been around for centuries, if not millennia. The reconstruction is a slow and painstaking process, much with salvaged materials, but also new materials incorporated to match the old. The results have been exquisite. They have more of these to be reconstructed.
Our first stop was at Kathmandu Durbar Square, which is the historic heart of the bustling capital of Nepal. A spectacular cluster of palaces, courtyards, and temples that showcase the architectural and cultural grandeur of the Malla kings. At one time this is where Nepali monarchs were coronated. Today it hosts ceremonies and festivals. One of the jewels is the Kumari Ghar, home to the living goddess Kumari, a young girl chosen to represent the deity Taleju. Unfortunately being it was a Saturday, we couldn’t see the Kumari.
Next stop was the Swayambhunath Stupa, the Monkey Temple, on a hill overlooking Kathmandu Valley. As one of the most ancient and revered religious sites, its white dome and glistening golden spire adorned with the watchful eyes of the Buddha. The stupa represents a blend of Buddhism and Hinduism.
Then we headed to Patan (pronounced Patton) Durbar Square located in the heart of the ancient city of Lalitpur. It includes grand palaces, intricately carved wooden windows, and sacred temples. The square, was once the royal palace complex of the Malla kings. It includes Hiranya Varna Mahavihar, the Mahabouddha Temple, and the Patan Museum. The museum had some of the most beautiful, centuries-old artifacts from the Buddhist and Hindu aspects of Nepal.
Next on the itinerary was Bhaktapur Durbar Square, which includes palaces, courtyards, and temples of the Malla dynasty. The landmarks include the 55-Window Palace and Vatsala Temple with exquisite woodwork and stone craftsmanship. With its cobblestone streets, stores, and eateries, it’s a beautiful place to visit.
We took a break to eat a wonderful Newari style meal of lentil, vegetables, and rice, along with a Gorkha lager beer.
After lunch, headed to Changunarayan Temple, which sits atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley and is resplendent with ancient Nepali art and spirituality. As the oldest Hindu temple in the region, its roots trace back to the Licchavi period (450 to 750 CE). The temple has intricate wood and stone carvings that narrate tales from Hindu legends and epics.
The final stop Boudhanath Stupa is one of the world's largest and most iconic Buddhist monuments, with a massive mandala, towering white dome, and the watchful eyes and nose of Buddha (symbolizing wisdom and unity) painted on the golden tower. Circled by a flurry of prayer flags and the hum of prayer wheels, Boudhanath is a vibrant hub for Tibetan buddhists. Across from the stupa is beautiful Tibetan buddhist monastery.

This tour was the perfect way to see the UNESCO sites in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur! Our guide, Rajan Dhakal, was well-organized, knowledgeable, and took great photos of us. It was awesome to have this tour (verses taking a cab between the sites) as we enjoyed learning the stories of the various monuments as well as the best time of day to visit each. Rajan even worked out for us to get a special glimpse of the living goddess in Kathmandu and provided local food recommendations. The car was very comfortable and clean and the driver was great as well.

Truly memorable tour! Privan is a fantastic guide who always looks out for his customers. He allowed me to spend as much time as possible at each site. Going in December, in the morning was a great decision due to the fact that most of the heritage sites weren’t crowded. For those that were, it was such a beautiful, cultural experience. My favorite place was Swoyambhu Mahachaitya (monkey temple). It sits on a hill that allows you to see the entire town. I highly recommend this tour, especially if you’re with a loved one, or loved ones who prefer private time, with plenty of time for pictures! Thank you, Privan! Hope to see you at Everest next year!
