What To Expect

The Niagara River runs north from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario, forming part of the border between the Province of Ontario in Canada and the State of New York in the U.S. Beginning from Grand Island, N.Y., climb aboard a single or double kayak and paddle along a relatively easy route that includes the scenic sights and abundant wildlife of the Upper Niagara River islands.

Pass the River Lea Farmhouse, a Victorian farmhouse located in the Beaver Island State Park where President Grover Cleveland worked at his first job for his uncle.

Look for a variety of waterbirds on Motor Island, including egrets, great blue herons and Caspian terns, among others. Then there’s Strawberry Island — with its deep lagoon, it’s one of the most significant aquatic ecosystems in the Great Lakes region.

Enjoy being out on the water and learn a thing or two about the history of the area. Tour includes a light snack, water, and all the necessary equipment.

I’ve had such great experiences with Viator tours and this one is up there with my Sunset boat ride in Positano, Italy. We were a family of 4, kids age 10 and 12. We picked flowers off huge Lilly pads, watched a Great Blue Heron fly away majestically over tall grass marsh land, cornered a small island called Motor Island that had birds sitting atop tall trees. Parts of the tour were reminiscent of the scene in Little Mermaid “ Kiss The Girl” and two rides at Disneyland, Jungle and Pirates of The Caribbean. The history and conservation efforts to preserve the shore and Marshland were awesome and so appreciated. Come an hour early to have a quick bite at Casey’s down the street. 2 minute walk. Italian hot dog was delicious. Old school Pepsi vending machine made the perfect decoration for the spot. All staff at Blue Marina were friendly and helpful especially our tour guide Desi. He is knowledgeable about the area and gave helpful tips throughout. Although the tour was 3 hours we lasted 2 hours 40 minutes. I’m not an efficient kayaker so my shoulder and neck were getting sore. One of my kids had to go to the restroom. If it weren’t for those two setbacks we could have lasted another hour. Overall it was a great family experience. Highly recommend tour if you enjoy mild adventure, nature, wildlife, upper arm and core workouts, and local history.

Great experience
Cheryl_P, Sep 2021
Our guide was very knowledgeable of the area and shared lots of information and history. We were appreciative that we were able to reschedule because the weather on Sunday was windy and a little rainy but Monday afternoon was picture perfect and made for a great experience. Thank you!

BEST PART OF OUR TRIP

Holy cow! This kayak tour was a blast! We learned SO much from our guide Desi about flora and fauna and the conservation efforts! Our mom went - she’s 76 with bad knees. This is a tour for anyone who wants to get up close and personal with what the area has to offer!
Were rained out
David_N, Jul 2021
Sadly we were rained out, but they issued a full refund immediately. The communication was quick and friendly every time we spoke.
A Great Adventure
Joanne_M, Jun 2021
We traveled through the man made marsh areas and across the Niagara River. We stopped in a number of areas. Our guide, Desi, was knowledgeable about the wildlife and the facts and history of the area. You can get a real feel for the area on this trip.
Nice but unreasonsably expensive
Jwan_N, Jun 2021
The experience itself was nice but be aware that this price is very expensive and you could purchase it at a much lower price. Furthermore, we still paid for 3 despite us using only 2 boats (one of them is tandem) which is very unreasonable.

Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area. We had a beautiful day on the river. Without the guide we would have gotten lost.
Kayaking with history of marsh restoration
Jody_C, Sep 2018
Had a wonderful, guided tour of the marshlands, islands, and local history. The area is beautiful and easy to paddle. All the reviews were true - Paul was a great tour guide as he loves kayaking and was involved in the restoration of the marshlands and shared his passion for what was done and why. The light snack could easily have been munching on the tubers and plant life given his extensive knowledge! Loved that they operate during the week. Will definitely be back with more family for another trip.
Amazing kayaking on the Niagara river
AVI_D, Sep 2018
The kayaking trip was really great. Our guide, Paul, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He knows every flower, insect, and bird on the river, and loves explaining everything to the kids. It's great to see someone who really loves his job and stayed longer than scheduled to make sure we didn't miss anything. The scenery is beautiful, and they have both single and tandem kayaks. This trip is highly recommended for anyone who loves kayaking and nature.
3 hrs, 4 miles, and millions of yrs of history

Thoroughly enjoyed this kyaking tour in the Niagra River! The guide was extremely knowledgeable and interesting. We learned about current conservation efforts to preserve the eco system, and listened to interesting historical funfacts. We even spent time collecting fossil pieces from 350 million years ago! The river was beautiful and manageable for even beginnng kayakers. Highly recommend!

This was an amazing tour. Our guide was Paul and he explained everything to us about the plants and animals in that region. It was like being in a biology class. This is not a lazy tour, you have to actually work to get where you're going. There is also some open water kayaking which means you're really exposed to the elements and water conditions. We found this just added to the tour.

Kayaking was such a fun and wonderful experience. The regular tour guide was not available as we booked last minute; however the owner's son - Tommy - jumped right in and volunteered himself to give the tour. It was the first tour he had ever given and he was great. I was in a double kayak with my 9 year old niece; I did the majority of the paddling! Tommy was a wonderful guide with knowledge of the area. I would definitely come back in addition to recommending them to anyone who is looking for a fun, unique activity near the falls!
