Fabulous instructor and delicious food at The Banana Cooking School

Great fun and learnt how to cook my favourite Fish Amok, plus rice paper rolls and banana caramel. Chef Lom Ang from the Banana Cooking School is an excellent teacher. We shopped in the local market, which is always very colourful and full of interesting smells ( some not so good). Then back at Le Rose to cook. I was lucky enough to have the morning session all to myself. Thanks Lom Ang and your team at the Banana Cooking School.
    Tasty and memorable cooking class

Our chef director was very good. Market shopping was interesting but the real treat was food preparation. All the staff helped us have a terrific experience. The food we prepared was delicious and plentiful. The accommodations for the entire affair was quite nice. We were a small group so it felt like we were treated even more special. Recommend experience.
    A must do 😁

Wonderful experience in Phnom Penh and I highly recommend. Kitchen is set up in lovely clean boutique hotel facilitated and hosted by a professional team of staff. Fun experience with local market visit for fresh produce and a delicious menu prepared to enjoy. I also highly recommend booking into the hotel’s day spa, best massage in PP!
Wonderful experience in a classy environment!

What a great experience! I feel confident in buying from the markets now. Air conditioned, top class facilities, great recipes! My accomplice said the main course was the best he had eaten in the 10 days we’d been here (I agree). Chef Lom Ang Peark was so good to work with. I’ve taken cooking classes in Vietnam, Thailand and Bali (Indonesia) and this one is right up with the best!
    This is a great experience

Great experience. Especially if you have kids. The staff was great. Especially the head teacher (pictured here). Please take this trip. The visit to the market to pick the ingredients is also a nice experience. Very well planned
Great day learning how to cook Khymer!
    Blair_N, Nov 2023
The recipes were simple yet traditional Khymer. The instructor was experienced and very helpful. It was a bonus that the people we cooked with were interesting and fun!
Great recipes, great cultural experience, recommended 100%

We started with a fun little tuk tuk ride to a _local_ market for some shopping. Then we got into prep and cooking. I received clear directions and the reasons for those directions. Although I cook a lot back home. I feel like the instructions were appropriate for inexperienced Cooks as well. I got a lot of great cultural context and conversation beyond just the recipes, which really made the class worthwhile for me.
Great course from a great chef

I ended up being in a 1 on 1 class which was great. Chef LomAng took me to the market for the ingredients, then we got started right away making starter main and desert (my favourite was desert). LomAng was so sweet and patient. She even packed up what I could not finish to take home with me. I also got the recipes printed and a certificate. LomAng also told me what I could/could not swap ingredients for if I can’t find everything in my home country.
    Delicious cooking class

All the experience was great. Our chef guidance was also great and the result of our cooking was delicious, we are it all, paired with a glass of a good red wine. The menú was natural spring rolls, chiken yellow curry and a banana with coconut milk and palm sugar.
Great experience and learnt so much.

What a wonderful and delightful experience. From shopping at the market, to the first class cooking facilities and ingredients. The instruction we were given were kind, patient, and intimate. And the meal turned out amazing. No I mean it. It came out really really great! We can’t wait to try them again ourselves when we get home!
Best option to get an impression of Khmer cooking
    Simone_S, Feb 2023
First of all after changing the menu to my favorites we did shop all incrediances on a local market - so friendly and unique:-) in the class (just myself and the cooking chef : thank you so much for running the class just for one person!!) I had enough time to cut, mix and prepare everything by myself and ask a lot of questions :-)). This gives me best option to remember an remake whole menu at home. I received a lot of compliments when sharing my dishes at the end. I would recommend this experience to everyone having fun with learning more about the country you’re visiting !
    Great cooking class!

We had a great time and learned a lot about traditional Cambodian food! It was delicious and everyone was very nice. Would definitely recommend!
Wonderful cooking class - great experience!
    Darcie_S, Nov 2022
LomAng was such a wonderful guide for this class, it ended up being 1:1 which so great. We got our ingredients from the market first and then once we got back to Banana Restaurant we started cooking. The class was at a great pace, easy to learn and LomAng explained every step she well. The food was of course DELICIOUS, and was such a great reward to eat it all at the end.
    Great food, Great fun
    mik_v, Nov 2022
We started the day with a walk to the local market to collect the ingredients for our dishes. Clean, bright and busy. We got the chance to watch coconuts bring shredded and fresh coconut milk made. Back to the kitchen, under the guide of the patient chef we chopped, sliced and diced our way to making fresh vegetable spring rolls, yellow chicken curry and caramelised bananas. . Delicious. A great way to spend a morning. . Highly recommend
    Complete experience in cooking
    Adrian_S, Oct 2022
The experience starts in the market, and we get to see live how the trade goes. People are very friendly and the staff is genuinely trying to help us throughout the whole experience. The cooking class is good - mostly full with Europeans. Some of the materials were pre prepared but they were detailed explaining how things are mixed, cooked and why certain methods are done as it is. Love the whole experience, the staff were very nice and accommodating.
Can’t wait to make this Khmer dishes for my family!
    Alexandra_S, Oct 2022
This was such a fun experience and recommend to everyone! First you get a shopping list, then you Tuktuk to the local market, you meet vendors and pick your ingredients then head back to prep, cook, learn and eat!
Great class, highly recommend, simple recipes.
    Saranya_N, Aug 2022
Banana cooking school was amazing! It was in a hotel which was very neat and clean. The class was well organised and easy to learn. The food tasted amazing! We made spring rolls, yellow chicken curry and a banana desert. The instructor was really nice and accommodating! Highly recommend to anyone who wants to understand the basics of Cambodian food. Recipes were simple not too complex.
    Great morning of cooking!

Very enjoyable morning at the banana cooking class! Took a short tuk tuk ride to the market with one of the restaurant staff to pick up ingredients then headed back for our lesson, was a fun and relaxed morning making some delicious food!
