Thorough and interesting tour of Jewish history and Jewish quarter of Prague

We toured the synagogues and learned a lot of Jewish history. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaged.

Martina was brilliant! She was thorough, intelligent, well educated and personable. We appreciated her immensely. The tour takes you into an old and new world. The synagogues are wonderful and rich in history. Martina expertly navigated us through history and the significance of each site and item. Excellent!

Very good guide, interesting sites

Interesting tour with a very good guide. Not 'excellent', my highest rating, because he was mostly knowledgeable about Judaism and not fully knowledgable...one example is mentioning that Hanukkah was because they wanted to have light for 8 nights but only had oil for one night. Actually, there is an 'eternal light' that stands by the torah's ark and always stays lit but they only had enough oil for one night and could not accrue more oil for another 8 days. Not that they just desired the light but that it was a commandment for them to keep the light burning. So God made the one day of oil last for the 8 days until more oil could be obtained...that was the miracle. But the guide was very knowledgable about the Jewish Quarter and led a great tour.

Listening to David tell us all the details of the Jewish history of Prague. He was very informative and very easy to listen to! Although he wasn’t Jewish, he went to a Jewish school for a year and enjoyed taking part in all the customs and festivals! We also didn’t need to wait in any of the lines as all our admissions were pre paid.

Lots of history in the Jewish quarter of Prague. Peter gave us a concise yet thorough overview of the Synagogues’, cemetery, and Jewish people themselves’ history in Prague. 2.5 hours isn’t nearly enough to see and read everything but Peter did a great job giving us the details of the highlights as well as personal anecdotes. Recommend!

This really depends on your guide. Our guide did what felt like whitewashing of the history of Jews in general. It also felt a bit too self directed - asking us if we should move on or stay or if we were interested in what they had to say. It felt like a guilt trip on what was an emotional tour already for many of us. I would encourage the company to make sure the guides are trained and more confident.
