Overview

Enjoy a guided tour of the Monteverde Cloud Forest, where you’ll have the chance to spot the resplendent quetzal! This is a 2-3 hour excursion, where you’ll meet up with your guide, who will lead you through this tropical cloud forest, looking out for the multitudes of wildlife that inhabit the area using a spotting scope.

Our tour guide Roy was the best. He had so much knowledge to share with us about everything we saw along the hike. Whether it was about the family of pigs or the resplendent quetzal we were fortunate enough to see or the details about the different trees, it was absolutely wonderful.

Juan Carlos was an excellent guide. Very intuitive for listening to the different sounds, know which birds, reptiles or mammals are making them.

We had a great time on this tour. Our guide was very knowledgable and was able to spot all sorts of amazing birds with his naked eye. I'd highlight recommend doing this tour and then sticking around to explore the forest on your own afterward

Roy was very knowledgeable and helped to navigate our family with the 3yr old around really well. Would definitely recommend the tour, especially for spotting Quetzal’s.

Roy was a fantastic guide and was able to find so many animals that we wouldn't have been able to without a guide. We noticed many people touring without a guide and it appeared that they weren't seeing many of the wildlife species we were able to view. I would absolutely recommend going with Roy! We spotted four Resplendent Quetzals among many other birds and animals. It was really amazing.

We took a private tour with Roy (not that Roy) through the cloud forest. He was super aware of my mobility issues while he helped us find some amazing animals. We were able to see a couple of quetzales, which were the number 1 animal I wanted to see. Roy was so knowledgeable and patient. He really enriched our experience visiting the cloud forest and helped us to see things we would’ve otherwise missed.

What a great tour! Ray had an impeccable ability to spot all sorts of animals in the wild that we never would have noticed. He was incredibly knowledgable and passionate about the plants and animals. We learned all sorts of interesting and surprising things, and we have photos from Ray to remember them all. Highly recommended!

Amazing wildlife!

You must demand that Juan Carlos is your guide! He has the skilled senses and lucky touch to connect you with all the wildlife there is to see in the preserve. My daughter and I are still talking about his impressive ability to find birds and other animals in the dense rainforest canopy. He deserves 6 stars!!

Wonderful experience

Ours guide was so eager to find many wild life for us. And there are lot of birds in Monteverde. What made me most happy is to ha e seen the queztal. Without a guide you won't see much in Monteverde even if you have lenses.

I was interested in seeing the smaller birds and our guide did not disappoint. He was knowledgeable and just as enthusiastic as I was about seeing the birds. I can’t tell you how many but it was probably +40 different species. 10/10

We really loved taking this tour with Roy. He is so passionate and knowledgeable about the wildlife and the forest. We saw some amazing birds, including two quetzals! This was definitely a highlight of our holiday!

Great tour! Our guide, Roy, was friendly and knowledgeable. It was also really easy to find him and start the tour. He showed us a lot of wildlife we would have missed and helped us take close-up photos of several animals through his spotting scope. He also shared a lot of Costa Rican history. We considered forgoing a tour and exploring the forest ourselves and I'm SO glad we booked this tour instead!

We really enjoyed this tour. Roy was a great guide and found several animals for us. We saw howler monkeys, white face monkeys, hummingbirds, quetzal, tarantula, black face solitary bird, stick bug and a lot of different flora. Roy was very nice and had very good communication skills. Would definetely recommend this tour.

My mom (75 years old) and myself (39 years old) had a great time on this tour! The hiking was very minimal impact, so we had no issues at all. We saw tarantulas, monkeys, a large variety of birds, hummingbirds, "stick" insect, and more! Our guide was very knowledgeable! And it was amazing how he could spot these birds in the trees while we were walking around! He also had a spotting scope so you could see the birds close-up, and he even took pictures on our phone through the scope so we could have pictures of them as well! Honestly, if we went without a guide, we would have enjoyed the scenery, but we definitely wouldn't have been able to spot all the wildlife! Great tour!

My guide, Roy (smaller one - there are two Roys) was super knowledgeable and friendly. After the tour, give yourself time to explore the rest of the park. Be aware that the last public bus from the park departs at 4:00, so Olán accordingly.

Excellent morning in the cloud forest

We had a fantastic morning tour with Roy, who in addition to being a great guide, was one of the kindest people we met on our trip. We learned a lot about the history of the cloud forest, saw some beautiful wildlife, and found the whole experience to be extremely pleasant with Roy. He even told us we were welcome to visit his personal property if we wanted see the monkeys we couldn't find in the cloud forest! Would highly recommend this tour with Roy.
