What To Expect

Make your way to the Piazza Barberini, where you meet your guide for evening departure to the first stop of the day, the Museum and Crypt of Capuchins. Hear the story behind the macabre “Bone Chapel,” which is built with the remains of around 4,000 monks, and discover the beliefs and traditions that led to the chapel’s creation.

After your time in the Bone Chapel, continue to the Catacombs of Santa Priscilla in a private, air-conditioned minibus. Among Rome’s extensive network of catacombs, this site is renowned for holding the oldest-known image of the Virgin Mary. The Catacombs of Santa Priscilla were the original resting place for the remains of seven Popes, and the eight miles (13 km) of tunnels are illuminated with bright frescoes.

This catacomb tour offers the once-in-a-lifetime chance to explore a fascinating historic site after it’s closed to the public, so you can experience the catacombs as they once were: dim, quiet, and peaceful. After you re-emerge into the Roman streets, your tour concludes at Piazza Barberini, close to public transport and centrally-located attractions.

Amazing Guide and History

Our guide, Federico, was amazing. He was very knowledgeable and had tremendous energy. He was happy to help with everything from restaurant suggestions to securing a taxi. My teenage son expected to see more bones in the catacombs, but was still engaged with the tour.

Wonderful tour guide. Very sweet, funny, personable and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the experience but we’re disappointed that the catacombs were completely empty. You will not see bones and skeletons in this particular catacomb even though it shows this in the advertisement. False advertising if you ask me! Also, the tour guide isn’t allowed to do the tour once you reach the catacombs since it is considered “Vatican Territory.” Once you reach the catacombs, a priest takes over the tour.

This was an fun and interesting tour. Our guide, Silvia, was very enthusiastic and engaging. Additionally, the church and catacombs were fascinating even though the catacombs did not hold any bones.

You see ZERO bones or skeletons in the catacombs. The guide was wonderful. This trip was an incredible waste of time and money. It is not as advertised. Completely ruins one of our nights in Rome. Yes, it is after hours. It wasn't even dark out when we were done. Maybe 30 minutes in the empty catacombs with a different guide, who just wanted to go home.

Really enjoyed the entire tour. Guide was awesome and gave lots of details about the tour and the city. Would have enjoyed more time in Capuchin museum. The tour guide at the catacombs was excellent as well.

Tour with an Expert of the Catacombs

The Bone Chapel was interesting, but the best part of the tour was the Catacombs. The catacombs are maintained by the Vatican, so we had a Vatican-authorized guide for the catacombs. Her knowledge of the history of the catacombs was outstanding. The small group size was a welcoming relief. With the earpieces, you could hear everything the tour guide said. This tour will not disappoint and it’s worth the price!

The whole experience was amazing. Wonderful history and our guide was amazing. The Capuchin Crypt was surreal and the history of the catacombs was really enlightening.
Interesting and unique Rome experience but a bit pricey for what it was.

An interesting experience outside of the typical Rome experience. The Cappucian crypts are definitely creepy but the museum is interesting. The catacombs and mosoleums were also something unique to see. Overall it was a little pricey for what it was which is why I gave it 3 stars.

The bone chapel was interesting, as well as the catacombs. We had a small group of 8 people. Our guide was very informative. The only reason I marked this tour down was because we were picked up at one point but were not brought back there. Dropped off "somewhere" in Rome on a dark street and being our first day in Rome finding our way back to the hotel was hard. My advice, ask to know the drop off point in advance.

Best tour during our stay!

Boy would I like to have more memory for names and less jet lag. Our tour was through I believe "Walk About Tours" or something close to that. Our guide was a delightful, wry, exceptionally knowledgeable, and very considerate lady from South England. She included real life examples to help bring history from statistics to digestible and quantifiable events, something no other tour or guide did. She kept to her appointed times without any feeling of rushing, able to properly balance time for questions and quality viewing by all participants. If that sounds normal to you, let me assure you it was not. This was the ONLY one of our tours/guides to do this. Every other one spent way too much time standing and talking near nothing (like in open courtyards) and then rushed around actual sights with a nod towards things like "the best view of" as we sped by. We were soured on cruddy tours before this and had only signed up as it was our last opportunity to see the catacombs before we left. This tour company and guide made our last tour the best by far, and a happy memory. Fascinating material too, know there's only a small portion where you see bones and it is not in the catacombs. Also know the exhibits do not allow any photos.
