What To Expect

Meet your guide upon hotel pickup in Miri and embark on a scenic drive to Niah National Park. Learn about the archaeological site showing evidence of Southeast Asia’s oldest human settlement and its main claim to fame: the remains of a 40,000-year-old Homo sapiens skull discovered in the Niah Caves.

On arrival, you’ll ride a boat across a narrow river and take a tranquil forest hike for roughly one hour to the vast limestone caves, home to bats and swiftlets. See a variety of plant life common to the limestone topography and perhaps encounter birds and other small animals.

Venture with your guide into the Niah Great Cave, where you’ll see the human skull on display along with tools made of stone, bone and iron. Not to be missed are the Niah cave paintings of boats and human figures. Wooden coffin ‘death-ships’ were also found here and their prehistoric artifacts are now on exhibit at the Sarawak Museum.

After a look, you'll stop at a park canteen for an included lunch before return transport to your Miri hotel.

Excellent, friendly guide for an enjoyable, informative trip.
Darina_P, Feb 2024
From pick-up onwards, our trip was excellent and well organised The guide (Sazali) was very knowledgeable and attentive. The caves are wonderful and the added information made the experience so much more meaningful. Couldn't recommend highly enough!
High risk adventure
SAM_W, Mar 2023
Transport to and from Niah was horrible! Old junky van. Lots of back ache. Guide was good. Long walks. Dark and slippery. High risks if accidents. Painting was hardly a painting.
The customer service team is not...
Yung C, Jun 2017
The customer service team is not very responsive. Upon the booking, Ive submitted two enquiries to double check the tour pick up location, on 06 June and 11 June. Ive not received any confirmation up to 18 June. I had to contact the local provider to arrange the next day tour. Despite that, the tour itself is awesome. Charlie, our tour guide did such a fantastic job.
