Overview

Making a day trip to the UNESCO-listed monasteries of Meteora from Thessaloniki can be difficult without a self-drive car. This full-day tour eliminates transport stresses: taking you direct to the medieval rock-pinnacle monasteries by comfortable air-conditioned minivan or coach, and with a guide to explain the monasteries’ construction, art, and history. What To Expect

Make your own way to the meeting point centrally located in Thessaloniki. Settle into your comfortable air-conditioned vehicle for the drive to Meteora.

Upon arrival in Meteora, your guide takes you to two of the medieval rock-pinnacle monasteries and provides insights into the history of the precipitously built monastery complexes. Your guide also leads you to the best viewpoints so you can enjoy panoramic views of the monasteries and the otherworldly surrounding landscape.

Enjoy lunch (at your own expense) with a view in the nearby village of Kastraki before the return journey to Thessaloniki where you are dropped off back at the pickup location.

Our trip attendant shall wear a clothing with the AMMON Express marking so that he will be recognisable easily.
You should be at the departure points 10' before the time indicated in the schedule. The bus cannot remain at designated stops, except for boarding.
The monasteries have strict dress rules prohibiting entry to male visitors wearing shorts and women visitors with sleeveless sweatshirts. Women need a long skirt/ dress to enter the monasteries.

The approach to the monasteries is achieved through stairs and requires comfortable footwear.
Please be consistent with the exact appointment times specified by the Ammon Express escort, so that the excursion to Meteora will remain unforgettable to all participants.

Wonderful trip! The tour guide was excellent. Beautiful scenery, very interesting visit to two nunneries (the monasteries were closed). Viator should use a better local company in Thessaloniki. The bus they put us on had a non working air conditioning and no windows. It also broke down going to Meteora, then they said they fixed it and going back to Thessaloniki there was a very strong gasoline smell and some passengers in the back of the bus reported smoke. We had to stop on the side of the road contemplating the sunset and the mosquitoes while waiting for more of one hour for the bus replacement. This bus was in no condition for such a long trip and shouldn’t have been used. I put 2 stars because the lady that was directing the trip (there is no guide) was nice.

Amazing experience, perfectly organised, especially unique location to enjoy our lunch. Our tour guide was very friendly and helpful. She told us lots of history of this apart area. Our bus driver brought us safely to our destination and back to the city with the luxury coach.

The magical views of this location will take your breath away. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and had many fun stories about mythology and the history of Greece along the way. The bus is very comfortable and meeting people from other countries during the tour was also a fun experience. The bus driver deserves props as well as I have no idea how he navigated an automobile that big through those small spaces. Both the tour guide and driver were very professional and kind. The lunch spot was also beautiful and the employees were very easy to work with, with such a large group. Definitely worth every dime!!

Meteora is stunning and is the main reason I choose to visit Thessaloniki, glad I am not disappointed. The coach was spacious and comfortable as it was a long drive. Tour guide Rita gave us good general background of the place. A star was taken away as we were only given 1 hour for lunch and with a group of over 25, by the time I got my food, there was only 15 minutes left. It was not a good dining experience and we still needed to pay extra for this. I‘d rather brought a packed lunch and had more time for the monastries.

The full day trip to Meteora, operated by Ammon Tours, was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The tour guide was interesting, knowledgeable and helpful. The trip stayed on schedule but we didn't feel rushed. The 2 monasteries and the panoramic view were extraordinary, as is Meteora in general. The (optional) lunch was tasty. Although there is a lot of driving, the bus was very comfortable and the guide kept us entertained. Definitely worth doing if you have the time...

It was very fun. Met some great people and the tour guide was super nice and informative. The resturant at the end of the tour is pricey, but it is worth the price if you want professionally cooked food.

The host and driver were lovely. Very informative while on our way and once at the monasteries. We had enough time at all locations, no rush to see everything. The restaurant was not touristy, it was a nice place with amazing food!

Excellent and Well Organised Day Trip to Meteora

We booked this one day trip to Meteora as I had a limited amount of time in Thessaloniki and wanted to see this UNESCO site. I found the day trip well paced and organised. Our tour guide Lazarus was both friendly and knowledgeable. We had ample time in two monasteries, were taken to sites to get panoramic views for photos and stopped at a very nice restaurant for lunch. I would thoroughly recommend this experience for others wanting to experience the wonderful panoramic views Meteora offers.
